A former wrestler
he was.
The quake caught him
in the house
with his three
pre-teen children.
The walls buckled
and exploded
into rubble,
the floors caved in.
He curved his body
over his offspring,
holding the roof,
with his shoulders,
giving them space
to breath.
He birthed them ,
in an ultimate sacrifice,
as once
he had sired them.

This is a tribute to a former wrestler, Polykantriotis, who during
the recent Athens quake
died as he was being rescued from the ruins of his house, where
his strong body created a safe
space for his three children to live. "No greater
love exists than to give your life for your dear
ones" (Jesus).
