Vertical Banding Gastroplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces the amount of food that your stomach can hold.

Normal stomach size is
about a quart

After VBG surgery the size
is about 1 ounce.

A small hole is surgically punched in your stomach and several bands of staples are used to seal it. Three vertical band of staple are used to create the pouch. A Gortex Band is placed through the hole and around the side of the stomach. Once this band is in place it finishes the new stomach pouch. Food goes into the pouch just as it normally went into your stomach. The band stop the food from passing any further making you feel fuller faster. As the food is processed it drains from the pouch and into the rest of the stomach. From there it passes through the rest of your digestive system just as it always has done.

From this point on Dr. Weaver will have you eating just 2 caloric meals a day. Vitamin supplements will also be needed since your food intake will be reduced. Your diet will be limited to whatever you want and can tolerate. The only other limitation is a 20 minute time limit at meals.

This method has proven to be extremely successful. To see just how successful read some of the testimonials that patients of this surgery have given. A link below will take you to these or the other will return you to the web page.
