Several men in my family have served in the armed forces of our country. Dating back to the civil war and beyond. The first of the records that I have found were for James Harvey Lockhart ( my g-g-grandfather.) He and his brothers served in the civil war.
James Harvey enlisted in the confederate States of America Army , 16th Cav.,Co.C  Va. on Saturday August 20, 1862,and was Later promoted to Corp.
James' brother Benjamin Lockhart and William Lockhart were also in the 16th Va. Cav. , Co.C. I am waiting for more information on the brothers. I do know that all three brother was captured during the civil war.
James Harvey was released at the end of the war in Marietta ,Ohio. Benjamin was captured and sent to Camp Chase, Ohio. Meadows Turner , brother-in -law of the Lockhart brothers was also captured along with Benjamin and sent to Camp Chase. Meadows Turner  was later send to Point Lookout in Md where he was released a the end of the war.
