SESSION 4 Addendum 4: Experience for 4th Expedition

Howdy Folks!

Okay, experience is done. Gorvak, Kit and Noku gain levels, nobody else does, though many characters probably need only one more expedition to go up again...

As noted earlier, Gorvak makes 3rd level, and is advancing as a Barbarian...

Spencer -- thanks to the hectic activities of your companions, Kit has actually gotten enough 'off-stage' experience to advance to ECL 3 -- which in her case means 2nd level character. (Kit's own activities have evidently been somewhat exciting in the meantime, even though we are not quite sure what she has been up to!) I presume you are taking another Rogue level? If so, feel free to add skill points and note the various other improvements in the character sheet when you get the chance, i.e. +1 BAB, and Reflex save I believe goes up 1 as well, and you get Evasion class ability. For hit points, you can either wait until you get to play again -- hard to say when that will be of course -- or as a way-off-stage character, you may if you wish use the DMG variant rule on p. 42, table 2-23, and take the default roll of a 3 on the d6. As the DMG notes, that is a half-point below average -- but bad rolls hurt more than high rolls help (just ask my cleric/monk in Orion's world who has rolled a 1 on 4 out of 5 d8s!), and a 3 isn't bad. If however you want to add a second class, I'll need more info on what you want and why. However, also as an off-stage character, you have the opportunity to use that time spent not adventuring to actually add a class you didn't start with, so that is indeed an option. Meanwhile, I hope school is good!

Jon -- Noku has recovered from his recent (and thankfully brief) sojourn with his ancestors and made it to 3rd level! I presume that will mean taking 2nd level wu jen? (It was clear from our initial conversations about the character that he intended to advance indefinitely as a wu jen, and I don't expect that has changed any.) The hit die roll can wait, but you can figure out many other things in the meantime:

1) What feat you want to take, and it can be taken immediately, even before selecting the class you are advancing in, or you can wait until after some class stuff has been taken care of if you like. (You may want to look at some prestige classes, as sometimes feat selection must be done carefully in order to qualify -- skills can often be brought up to speed in a level or two, but feats come much more seldom.)

2) Select class to advance in -- i.e. wu jen unless I am much mistaken. The rest of these things assume you become wu jen 2.

3) Get +1 BAB.

4) Get +1 Will saves bonus.

5) Gain one 0th and one 1st level spell per day that you can prepare.

6) Add two 1st level wu jen spells to your spell book -- this costs essentially no time spent, no materials expense, and no spellcraft rolls needed, and can be of any 1st level spells you don't already have in your books (though it would make sense to add ones you don't already have access to), including those you might have previously failed a roll on. They represent continuing study and research you have been doing in town. (This is how most wu jen get most of their spells -- through generic research.)

7) Spend your 5 new skill points! Note that if you increase your spellcraft rank, you can try again on spells you may have failed to comprehend earlier, so that is another way to learn spells you want which you have access to...but failed on an earlier try.

Any questions, feel free to ask! -- Ernie III
