SESSION 34: The Spider Temple in the Spirit World

Month 4, Day 1, Year 1563 –

After spending the winter in the capital city of the Dragon Clan, we headed out to cleanse the spider temple in the spirit world. After the usual prep spells (Bull’s Strength, Cat’s Grace, Endurance, Haste, Fly, etc.), Zenako opened a portal to the spirit world using her wakizashi. We entered the spirit world and made our way to the spider temple, which did seem to be intact.

There were doors on each side of the temple that looked like mandibles, and lead into the central chamber. The temple floor was made of some kind of black stone that sucked active spells from those who walked on it, and there was some kind of web of black energy that also sucked spells from people.

Inside the temple, we engaged battle with and eventually defeated 1 Kumo King spider, 10 smaller Kiri No Oni spiders, and 4 Bebileth spiders.

We collected the following loot from the treasure chamber:

Platinum coins with spider emblem (10gp each)

Shaman scroll of Sustain and Polymorph Self (4th level spells), 7th caster level
Wand of Attraction (5th level effect, 50 charges, lasts 10 rounds/level)
Potion of Kiss of the Toad (300gp)
Shield - Lion’s Head (from DMG)

We also found a shard of the blood-white stone that the Zokujin from the Broken Hill Mines were searching for. The Zokujin referred to the object as a sphere, so this appears to be a fragment of the stone. We believe it was broken after it was taken from the Zokujin and divided between different evil creatures. Each shard apparently has its own set of powers, which may be more powerful than the sphere as a whole (which explains why the stone was broken up).

The shard of the blood-white stone has the following powers:
Bearer gains +2 Luck (saves, ability, skill checks), and Stone Cunning
If bearer has dark vision, it doubles the range;
If bearer is a divine spell caster, can cast spells with +1 caster level;
Adds a new domain with following spells (which only work when caster is standing on earth or stone):
1. Endure Elements
2. Soften Earth and Stone
3. Meld Into Stone
4. Spike Stones
5. Transmute Rock to Mud
6. Stone Tell
7. Summon Nature’s Ally: Earth Elemental (named Ondo: Str +4, Con +4, Dex +2, Wis +2, Cha -2, 192 HP) 8. Reverse Gravity
9. Earthquake
