High Adventure Bases

There are three National High Adventure Bases owned and operated by the Boy Scouts of America; Philmont, Northern Tier, and Seabase. CHAOS has sent crews to all three bases.

Philmont

Philmont Boy Scout Ranch is located near Cimarron, New Mexico. Three hundred scouts a day enter and leave base camp for ten day summer treks in the back country. They also have Autumn Adventure, usually around fall break, which involves several day hikes out of base camp into the surrounding mountains. There is also Kanik, a cold-weather survivial camp, which treats you to camping in the snow. CHAOS usually goes to Kanik every year and has been on Autumn Adventure a few times. Some of our members went on a summer trek in June of 2001.

Northern Tier

Northern Tier, also know as canoe base, is located in Ely, Minnesota on the US side and Atikokan, Ontario on the Canadian side. They offer treks during the summer in which crews go out on the boundary waters for different lengths of time. CHAOS went first in 1997 and again in 2000.

Sea Base

Sea Base is located in the Florida keys. They offer a wide range of activites including scuba diving, sailing in the Gulf of Mexico off the tip of Florida, sea kayaking plus much more.

Laguna Station

Laguna Station is not one of the national high adventure bases, but is a summer camp run by the South Texas BSA Council which offers activities similar to Sea Base. It is located on South Padre Island near Brownsville, TX. Like Sea Base, they offer a range of activites including scuba diving, sailing in the Gulf of Mexico from Port Isabel to Corpus Christi and back, sea kayaking down to Mexico, plus much more.
