CAMPING TRIPS

While we enjoy
organised 4WDrive outings with the Queensland
and Victorian Subaru Clubs,
and look forward to outings with the Nissan
Patrol Club that we joined only recently, we also very much like to get out and about on
our own.
In the past we
travelled very light - you can't afford to do much else with a Subaru 4WD wagon.
These days with the big Patrol we have space and
weight carrying capacity to spare but remain very conscious about what we load
onboard - but we must confess to having moved irrevocably into the luxury of
carrying a 12V/240V fridge and other assorted things that we wouldn't ordinarily
have taken on a Subaru trip.
We camp using either a three man tent, which we use
for overnight trips or short camps away from our main campsite, or we use a much larger, but still light weight, double dome tent which provides the luxury of being able to stand up
in - and keep everything dry.
We like
to stay out in the wild wherever possible, away from the hustle
and bustle of noisy caravan parks and popular tourist spots.
Fortunately, Australia's large size and relatively small,
sparsely located population, allows us to do this most of the
year round. When school holidays hit, we try to head inland, away
from the coastal crowds. Poor weather doesn't normally put us off
as we consider that to be part of the enjoyment of nature.
These are tales of
selected trips.
