AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

NAMADGI NATIONAL PARK

'Namadgi' is the Aboriginal name for the mountains southwest of Canberra. The mountainous area was declared a national park in 1984 protecting all animals, plants and cultural sites. Namadgi comprises about half the total land area of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) where Australia's national capital, Canberra, is located. It is close enough to Canberra for picnic lunches or day hikes, although longer, overnight hikes are also available.
