BASIC BACKPACK TRAINING

Indoor Session: Saturday Feb. 24, 2001 12:00pm to 4:00pm

Outdoor Session: Saturday & Sunday March 3 & 4, 2001

The Ventura County Council High Adventure Team will offer its Basic Backpack course starting Saturday Feb. 24, 2001. This course requires HAT - Outdoor Leader as a prerequisite.

High Adventure requirements require the at least one trek leader complete both Outdoor Leader and Basic Backpack in order for the unit to qualify for a High Adventure Patch Award.

This course will cover: trip planning, food planning, compass & navigation, map reading, trail customs & courtesies, lost & evacuation, equipment, and low impact camping.

This is a hands on course. The outdoor session will consist of a weekend backpack trip.

This course will consist of an indoor session to be held on Sat. Feb. 24, 2001 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 2500 Borchard Rd., Newbury Park.

The outdoor session will be a weekend backpack trip in the local Los Padres Forest on Sat. March 3 to Sun. March 4, 2001. We will be returning on Sunday around 1:00pm
