Who Will Be Saved?

16. Those who are chosen.

Matthew 11:27.

All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

Matthew 22:14.

For many are invited, but few are chosen.

John 5:21.

For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.

John 6:37-39,44,64,65.

37All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day."....44No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day."...64Yet there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65He went on to say, "This is why told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him."

John 10:16,26-29.

16I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd... 26 but you do not believe me because you are not my sheep My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.

John 17:1,2.

1After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.

Acts 13:48

When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

Acts 16:14,15.

140ne of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message. 15When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. "If you consider me a believer in the Lord," she said, "come and stay at my house." And she persuaded us.

 Romans 8:29,30.

29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Romans 9:10-24.

10Not only that, but Rebecca's children had one and the same father, our father Isaac. 11Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad--in order that God's purpose in election might stand: 12not by works but by him who calls--she was told, "The older will serve the younger." 13Just as it is written: "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated. " 14 What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all! 15 For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." 16It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire or effort, but on God's mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." 18Therefore God has mercy an whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden. 19One of you will say to me: "Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?" 20But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like thus?" 21Does' not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use? 22 What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath--prepared for destruction? 23 What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the 24objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory--even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?

Romans 11:5-10

5So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. 6And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer by grace. 7What then? What Israel sought so earnestly it did not obtain, but the elect did. The others were hardened, 8as it is written: "God gave them a spirit of stupor, 9And David says: "May their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them. 10May their eves be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever."

I Corinthians 1:23,24 .

23But we preach Christ crucified: stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Ephesians 1:11.

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.

IIThessalonians 2:13.

But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.

Hebrews 9:15

For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

II Timothy 2:10.

Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

I Peter 1:1,2.

1Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus. Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, 2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

 1 Peter 2:6-9.

6For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 7Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone," 8and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes therm fall." They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for. 9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that I you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Revelation 17:14.

They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of fords and King of kings--and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.

Matthew 24:30,31

30At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

Mark 13:27.

And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

To be objective and impartial with the Word of God, which is what we intend to be, this section and these Scriptures could not be omitted. "Who will be saved?" The Scriptures plainly declare that, among other things we have listed, it is 'those whom God chooses. " Now, what does this mean and what is implied in this? This is the subject of considerable debate. A discussion of the subject of predestination is far beyond the scope of our survey. Suffice it to say that the reader is cautioned against drawing conclusions that would hinder him from seeking salvation, living a godly life, or eagerly presenting the gospel to everyone. Many cite the following as well as other Scriptures to refute the idea that God irrevocably predestines anyone to be lost:

 John 3:16.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Romans 5:1 8.

Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was Justification that brings life for all men.

 II Corinthians 5:19,20.

19That God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.

 I Timothy 2:1-6.

1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior , who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men--the testimony given in its proper time.

I Timothy 4:10.

([A]nd for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.

I John 4:14.

And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

 11 Peter 3:9.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
