I was wrong.

Once, a dragon fell in love with the moon.

The creature was strong with a tail and great talons. His scales were black with the minerals of his rookery. His frame was shaped, his beak was sharp, and two perfect horns exited the back of his skull.

Plastron covered the dragon's belly from collar to crotch. Four lean limbs attached to its body while wings sprouted from his back. Like great sections of parasol, the wings were marvels of skin, scales, and cartilage. They stretched twice the length of his nose to his tail.

Deep in the earth, the dragon had been hatched. From that beginning the creature had grown to become curious about the world. It had met each new discovery with playful interest, until it first saw the moon.
