One moonless night, a young girl sat by her window and looked outside. She loved the time of year that it was because she could see the stars. As she looked out from the second story of her parents house, she thought she saw something moving across the roofs of other houses. It was dark, agile and coming her way.

The figure was human and lighted on the sloping roof that led up to the girl's window. It moved closer to the wall so as to be more hidden by darkness. The girl was shy and tried to hide, but she was also curious. When she started to lean out through her open window to look at the stranger, the girl found it was sitting on the roof and resting with its back to the wall.

The shadow noticed the girl and scrambled to her window. It was fast and the girl was surprised.

"Are you an angel," she asked.

"No," it replied, "But I will help you."
