Zebra Lodge
Zebra lodge is situated an a farm that has been commercial farmed by the Van der Westhuysen family for six generations.
The farm is situated in the little Karoo, below the Outenique Mountains . zebra lodge is ideally situated for tourists -- halfway between George (Garden Route) and Oudtshoorn, as well ass for guests who want to experience nature and farm life. It is only 3km from the main road, and is fully serviced.
The name Zebra derives from the Outoniqua Mountain Quagga (a rare Zebra specie), that roamed the area, but that is now extinct.
The lodge is a fully equipped farmhouse, built in 1870, that was restored to its full glory of shiny Yellowood floors and Origan Pine windows, doors and ceilings. The house is fully furnished with Cape Antiques that have been in the family for decades.
On the farm guests can experience a wide variety of activities. As it is a commercial Ostrich farm, they can see all the stages of Ostrich breeding and rearing.
Freshwater fishing in the big farm dam is a very popular activity, as well as hiking on the farm and experiencing the unique Karoo fauna and flora, and the fresh clean Karoo air
There are also ample roads for biking and 4x4 driving, and for the steam - train enthusiast, a railroad near enough to watch from the lodge.
