Past Campaigns
Voter Registration: During April 2003, we registered more than 50 students to vote in time for the 2003 Gainesville City Commission elections.
We encouraged them to register in Alachua County as opposed to their hometown county.
This way students are a significant influence in Gainesville, in which we spend at least four years or more.
On election day, we tabled outside the Reitz Union colannade and reminded students to vote.
Craig Lowe, the city's first openly gay commissioner, was elected by 16 votes. He was trailing the opponent, until the student-precinct at the Reitz Union came in.
We may have helped sway this election by registering students to vote in time for the election. This supports the Grassroots Democracy value.
Local Business: During December 2002, we passed out
550 fliers to students advocating holiday shopping at local businesses in Gainesville.
The campaign also raised $150 for GatorGreens. We plan to expand this campaign to include more
local businesses and reach more students. This supports the Community-Based Economics value.
Letter-Writing for Peace: During Fall 2002, we sent letters and e-mails to
Florida's senators and our local representatives urging them to vote against the War in Iraq.
We will continue to write letters and e-mail our representatives. This supports the Nonviolence value.

Present and Future Campaigns
Progressive Speakers: We will work to bring progressive speakers
like Helen Caldicott to UF. We are also
interested in bringing local activists and anti-death penalty activists to speak. If you have a
speaker suggestion, let the GatorGreens Officers know and e-mail the president,
Jennifer Ambler. This supports many Ten Key Values, and most of all, educates students.
Working With Progressives: We will work with other progressive
groups on campus to maximize our impact. For example, we will join minority groups in promoting Dr. Martin
Luther King's legacy of registering minorities to vote. This supports the value of Grassroots Democracy and
Respect for Diversity.
Volunteering: We will volunteer once a month to promote the Ten
Key Values and give back to the community. For example, we can help Habitat for Humanity build homes or
serve food at a soup-kitchen. This supports the Social Justice value.
Ecological Wisdom: We will support environmental groups in their
quest to make UF and Gainesville more green. For example, we may work with UF's Environmental Action Group (EAG)
in promoting more recycling on campus. This supports the Ecological Wisdom value.
