JOHN R. PIMENTAL

ACUSHNET -- John R. Pimental, 80, of Wamsutta Avenue died unexpectedly Sunday, April 20, 2003, at home. He was the husband of Jeanne G. (Cournoyer) Pimental; they were married 51 years.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Dennis R. and Adelaide (Rezendes) Pimental, he was raised and educated in the city; he resided in Acushnet since 1966.

Mr. Pimental was a truck driver for liquor wholesalers for more than 40 years until his retirement in 1982.

He was a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 59 in New Bedford and Local No. 526 in Fall River.

He was a member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Bowling Association, and served on the scholarship committee and as an officer for 40 years.

Survivors include his widow; two sons, Jeffrey Pimental of Easley, S.C., and Gary Pimental of Kaneohe, Hawaii; three sisters, Mary Viviera and Irene Duarte, both of New Bedford, and Sally Pires of Tiverton, R.I.; a brother, Dennis Pimental of Springfield; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Manuel Pimental, Joseph Pimental, Gilbert Pimental, Henry Pimental and Odelia Pimental.
