Vega's West Wing Fanfiction

Good writers borrow from other writers. Great writers steal from them outright. ~ Sam Seaborn, 20 Hours in America, Part II

I admittedly came into my West Wing obsession a little late. It all began back in the first season when I saw the final five minutes of "Take This Sabbath Day". I was entranced, and then I went back to school and thought about the show and watched to watch the show, but found it hard to catch. I came back to it a few years later and it has become a driving force and inspiration.

This page is my chance to work within his (and later John Wells') words and to bring glory and justice to the characters that were created. My stories here, I hope, dare to do what the series did for seven beautiful years: inspire you to dream and also, to learn about the issues I present. I know that as my fingers have clicked away on my thin keyboard night after night when I should be working on my term paper or doing the dishes, that I have found my own peace and my own dreams in this world. Perhaps it is because the world we currently live in is so besieged with fear, perhaps it is because something about this show touches me so much, perhaps it is because I have dreams of working as a speechwriter, crammed into a tiny office near the steam pipe trunk distribution venue. Perhaps all of it, perhaps more. As I write here, words for characters created by another, I find inspiration in my own original characters.

On May 14, 2006, the show came to an honorable end. But here, in this little corner of cyberspace, the West Wing lives on. Please, take the time to explore the world that were not created by me, but that I myself have thought to explore. Thank you Aaron Sorkin, thank you John Wells, thank you Warner Brothers and NBC. I don't get what I want. I don't get eight years of another ground breaking administration, but you have inspired me to not only write about the ones that you created, but to help create one here, in this realm.

REQUIRED LEGALESE:

Disclaimer: The West Wing and all its characters are a property of Aaron Sorkin, John Wells Production, Warner Brothers Television and NBC. No copyright infringement is intended. In other words, all West Wing characters are owned by NBC, Warner Brothers, John Wells, et al. I have absolutely no rights at all regarding them. I make no money with the characters that Aaron Sorkin created, or with the characters that were later created by John Wells. That being said, any orignial characters that appear, and most stories have them, are mine and I do retain those rights.

The stories I write do have adult content, be it sexual situations, scenes dealing with graphic violence, extra marital affairs, war, etc. But, not every story has those scenes. Each and every story has a rating next to it. For ratings of Mature/Adult nature, if you are under the legal age in your area to read/view such content: DON'T! You breaking the law only kills the fun for everyone. Most stories, while contained in series, can also be read as stand alones.

Quick Author's Note: It has been a year since some stories were updated. Please don't give up on them - as often happens with writers, I've been hit by a bout of writer's block on some of the stories. The new Light My Candle chapter will be up at the next update. Others are being worked on. Please, don't give up on these tales - they will be completed! Thank you for your patience!
Dark History
CJ and Toby
How did CJ and Toby get together?
And how did it end?
2005-2006 - Series Complete!
Last Updated: September 19, 2006

What You Should Know:
As always, she was the first thing he spotted in a room. Looking across the haze of gaudy decorations and the sea of people, he could see her standing there, glaring quietly at Leo as yet again, Leo made a point to prove himself right. And yet, looking at her, all he could think was how in the twenty years he’d known her, and the millions of times she’d explained it to him, he never understood why she wore those four inch heels. But in this moment, he didn’t care. She was beautiful, with the light glinting off her hair and the way the black of her shirt made her seem even more slender. She hated how thin she was, he loved it, took it as another testament to her inner strength. And to see the grace with which she could cross a room, particularly when he’d also seen her fall into swimming pools and off of treadmills, it took his breath away.

Author's Note: This series is COMPLETE. There will be, from time to time, small vignettes added in hopes of filling the gaps that chapters 1-10 weren't able to fill. But the series itself is complete and is continued in Forks in the Road

Spoiler Alert: Through the end of the series.

Forks in the Road
CJ and Danny
She was finally able to move past the conflict.
He knew there had never been one.
2006 - 2007 - WIP
Last Updated May 15, 2006

What You Should Know:
She admitted to herself, and only herself, that she was in love with Danny. She'd been in love with him even while she was sleeping with Toby on the campaign trail, she'd been in love with him while he told her to forget the conflict of interest, and she'd been in love with him while she was kissing Simon, sleeping with Ben and Tommy, and while Toby had taken her back into his arms. And she knew that it was time to move on, when Toby had sat there and told her that he'd been in love with her while still persuing Andi. She felt like a character in a sub-standard romance, letting her heart pine for one man and one man only, but she was in love with him. He made her laugh, he made her think, and the one night they'd actually been able to spend together, he'd made her cry in passion. She loved him, and now it was time to finally admit it.

Author's Note: This series is a work in progress. Each chapter is complete, but chapters will be added as they are finished.

Spoiler Alert: Through the end of the series and beyond, into what lies ahead for CJ and Danny.

Sirens
CJ and Leo
She could never shake the wail of the siren.
He'd always followed the sound of the Siren's call.
2005-2006 - WIP
Last Updated: December 7, 2006
What You Should Know:
There were a million things he wanted to say to her, all starting with ‘For the love of God, don’t resign.’ But when he opened his mouth, the words just refused to come. He didn’t know if it was because he knew she was right, or that he didn’t want to beg her to stay. As it was, the dream still plagued him and as he looked at his Press Secretary, he wondered if that voice he hadn’t recognized had been hers, begging him to save her from this mistake. Had it been CJ, begging for him to rescue her from the lockdown she’d found herself in over Haiti? But it was chauvinistic to think that way.

Author's Note: This series is a work in progress. Each chapter is complete, but chapters will be added as they are finished.

Light my Candle
CJ and Sydney (OFC)
Hate is Not a Family Value
2005-2006 - WIP
Last Updated May 25, 2006
What You Should Know:
Sydney grabbed the letter and skimmed it. Cases like this were all over the news but she honestly hadn’t thought twice about it. CJ was in perfect health. But here it was, telling them that CJ had been the recipient of blood possibly infected with HIV. “No, this … you’re fine. I mean, it’s been four years since the accident. You’ve never shown any sign of being sick. This is just a formality. We’ll go down to the clinic and get you tested.” But as she sat there, holding the letter, their life flashed before her eyes. CJ had been sick, more than once. There were fevers that spiked rapidly and kept her in bed for days, she slept all the time, and it took her forever to recover from even the simplest cold. Why hadn’t they thought of this before? “You’re okay, Sweetie.” She put down the letter. “Really, you have to be.” When she looked up, she saw shadows.

Author's Note: This series is a work in progress. Each chapter is complete, but chapters will be added as they are finished.

Fireflies
CJ and Michael (OMC)
She could have been afraid to fall in love that night,
but she didn't have time.
2006 - 2007 - WIP
Updated May 14, 2006
What You Should Know:
Out of the shadows he came, a smile, a charming accent. She'd never expected to go back upstairs with him, or to go to bed with him, or even to fall in love with him. Stories like that only happened to heroines in Harlequin Romances, or even in the latest Danielle Steele novel. Stories like this didn't happen to real life girls from Dayton, Ohio. But this one had happened, was happening, and the climax left her with no choice but to finally put two careers ahead of her heart. Love in the shadows doesn't last, and secrets can only be kept for a finite amount of time. And love doesn't give second chances, at least, not in the form of a doctor treating a broken arm, a soft smile, or the promise that the past doesn't matter. Does it?

Author's Note: This series is a work in progress. Each chapter is complete, but chapters will be added as they are finished.

Romeo and Juliet
CJ and Simon
She'd never been in a fairytale before.
2006 - 2007 -WIP
Updated January 7, 2007
What You Should Know:
It's hard to define that line that divides adreniline and passion, but she wanted to give it a try. The way he smiled at her made her heart flutter, the way he walked made her knees weak, and the way he argued with her turned her on. The lived on opposite end of the spectrum - he in a world of black and white, where the bad guys went down and the good guys were protected. She lived in the world of gray, a haze where there were no good or bad guys, only people with agendas she could agree or disagree with. Maybe, between the two of them, they would be able to find completion.

What You Should Know:
On December 16, 2005, this country lost a giant. John Spencer, the legendary actor who brought Leo McGarry (and many other characters) to life, passed suddenly from a heart attack. His death was written, heartbreakingly, into the show and here in my writing, I deal with his loss through stories and commentaries.
