Sisterhood

Spoilers: Everything past Election Day Pt 2 is fair game.

Summary: Donna prided herself on fulfilling almost every requirement it took to qualify as a true blue-blooded Democrat. She’d done her share of pot and binge drinking, had unprotected sex with one night stands, and she had even, once entertained romantic notions about being in love with Josh Lyman. She was pro-choice and against the death penalty. She believed in taxes and socialized medicine. She was straight, but not narrow-minded; she had even dated Republicans.

It was only when Margaret wasn’t at her desk that things like this happened. If Margaret had been at her desk, the door to CJ’s office would be closed and then Donna would have taken the excuse to chat with her old friend while she waited for CJ to have a spare minute for the question Mrs. Santos needed answered. But, Margaret wasn’t at her desk and the door to CJ’s office was open just enough for Donna to witness what was happening.

If this scene was playing out in a porn film, Donna would have grabbed the white mistletoe berries hanging from the lintel of CJ’s doorway, walked over to Kate, held the berries above the lovers, and initiated a threesome that would have ended with all of them engaging in a tangle of limbs that would even make Josh blush.

But, for the record, this was not porn and Donnatella Moss was completely confused about what to do next. She was a member of the Sisterhood of the Bartlet administration and catching this unguarded moment shouldn’t be fazing her.

If she’d walked in on Josh and Amy, Donna have rolled her eyes and grabbed the information she needed without disturbing them. She was used to Josh stealing private moments in his office. She wasn’t used to seeing CJ, the backbone of the administration, sobbing her eyes out while Kate Harper held her in the way that only a lover could.

Donna prided herself on fulfilling almost every requirement it took to qualify as a true blue-blooded Democrat.

Anyway, it wasn’t like she didn’t know full well that CJ was a lesbian. It was the relationship with Kate that was a surprise.

For a minute, Donna actually found herself rejoicing silently because it meant that Kate wasn’t sleeping with Will. But then her mind forced her to focus again on the women in front of her and the intimacy of the moment she was witnessing.

Did she sneak away? Did she announce her presence now or when they separated? Did she stay rooted to this spot until one of them saw her?

She was granted a bit of a reprieve; Kate pulled away. Donna stepped forward, ready to announce herself, but Kate walked over to CJ’s desk, unlocked a drawer and pulled out a bottle of scotch. “You need this.”

“Leo would be horrified.”

Donna held still, deciding that CJ probably didn’t want to have a witness as she drank to get herself under control.

“You are crying for Leo and if you think that he didn’t want to drink every day when he was in this office …”

CJ sighed and wiped at her eyes. “God, I’m sorry for loosing it like that, Honey.”

“You’re sorry for being human?”

“Funny.”

The liquid disappeared down CJ’s throat; Kate looked up and Donna gulped.

The two blondes stared at each other for a minute and in the back of her head, Donna could hear the beginnings of a porn movie soundtrack. If this were any of the videos out there, Kate would turn CJ around so she faced Donna and then slowly strip her lover out of her suit. Donna would watch until she could no longer wait before joining in and together, the younger women would make CJ feel better.

But this wasn’t porn, and for all the crushing she’d done on CJ for as long as she’d worked in this building, Donna just wasn’t into any pussy but her own.

She’d be happy to go and find out just how into her pussy Will was willing to be.

CJ also looked over and quickly regained her composure. “Hey, Donna, what did you need?” The half smile on CJ’s face let Donna know it was okay, that no transgression occurred in her witnessing of the private moment. After all, Donna reminded herself, she was a member of the Bartlet Sisterhood. Things like this happened among friends.

As she stepped into the office, Donna realized just how much she was going to miss the old circle of women. It was this Sisterhood who had broken down most of the barriers that existed in this town run by old, fat, white, protestant men. She would now be part of a new Sisterhood that included Amy, Lou, Annabeth, and even Mrs. Santos. CJ and Kate would leave for their own lives and take Margaret with them. Ginger had already accepted a new job over in the State Department, and Bonnie’s new girlfriend had whisked her away to New York. But Donna was the one to continue on in this building. She was the one who would be the leader for this new group of women. She was the one who knew how to get into the presidential ice cream stash and the quirks of each and every coffee machine. She was the coach for the new team.

She needed a drink almost as much as CJ did.

“You okay?” Donna settled into one of the chairs. The office felt so empty now and she couldn’t help but wonder how Josh would decorate it.

“I will be.” CJ’s smile reassured her and they both laughed as Kate poured them all a drink. They toasted to Leo, but really, Donna knew, they were toasting themselves and to the new group of women who would come in and rule the world.

She could handle the new Sisterhood. She’d just miss the old one.

“I’m wondering,” she said, setting the question from Mrs. Santos aside for a minute, “how long is it until they start making White House porn? You know,” she winked at CJ, “the younger blonde walks in on the Chief of Staff and her lover …”

CJ groaned and Kate just shook her head, “Don’t give Josh any ideas.”

Donna just grinned. Yeah, she was going to miss this, but it was going to be exciting creating this dynamic with a new group of beautiful blondes.
