Right here, on this page, the most recent addition to my fanfiction wanderings, I mark the beginning of my fanfic journey. I was in high school, lost and lonely, and one night flipping through the cable stations. I remember my father was in the room - I don't remember if we stopped on the show or not. I do remember that I was already vaguely familiar with it. I had no idea what it would end up meaning to me.

So, we stopped to watch and we tuned in right at the right moment to attract someone's full attention. The two main characters in an ambulance - one bleeding from a gunshot, one sobbing over his body. Of course I was hooked! What do you take me for?! So, I started watching and soon, I started writing. I was writing fanfiction before I knew what fanfiction was. At the time, I had an old computer in my room - it ran .dos and Windows 3.1 and even took those ancient, huge floppy discs. I didn't care. It was top of the line technology at the time - Windows 95 was just about to be released - and the machine ran word perfect and word. Within a year, I was well aquainted with the internet and the world of the Silk Stalkings fandom.

I am sure I was writing Silk-Fic before I remember doing it, but my realization of what I was doing came after the Oklahoma City Bombing. Tormented by the images and living in fear as my own father worked in a government building, I started to write. My characters were Chris and Rita and I'd stay up late into the night, writing away, working out any number of scenarios where Chris and Rita were in Oklahoma City for the bombing. Perhaps that was my offical writing bug, I couldn't tell you. I can tell you that it brought me into a world that has connected me to so many beautiful people and ideas.

Over time, fandoms have come and gone but I always held a place in my heart for Silk. Even when I wasn't watching it or thinking about it ... I could come back to it. I'm back now, at the beginning.
