The Fable of Coffey Juan Valdez
Once apon a time in a far off land, lived a young boy named Juanito Juilo Sanchez Valdez. Juanito was a very poor boy who loved his mother very much. One day his mother was deftly ill and he had to go to town to sell his donky. On the way there he met an old man peddeling beans. "These strong smelling black beans will cure any thing." The old man told the boy. "BUT THEY MUST NOT BE MIXED WITH WATER OR PLANTED!!" He warned. Little Juanito wanted his mother to be cured quickly and gladly traded the donky for the beans. When he got home he gave his mother one of the beans and sure enough she got better. When he showed her the other beans and told of the man she looked at him and said "Juanito, my son the old man told you that because he diden't want you to grow his beans and get ritch." Juanito felt stupid. He went out side and planted all but 4 of the beans. The 4 beans he grounded up and put them in water. After he drank it he felt energized and full of pep. But the drink was cold and bitter, so he went out side and watered the other beans with the drink. He went in side and after struggeling for three hours fell asleep. His mother ran in the next morning and told him of the beans. "Juanito!!! Come quick your beans they've grown in to trees!!!" He lept out of bed and looked up at the trees in the donky pen. They seemed to go all the way up to the sky. His mother handed him a sack. "Go and pick the beans so we can get rich!" she told him. He did what his mother said and climbed the tree and collected the beans. Feeling curious he climbed to the very tip top. At the top he saw a large castle and a donky. The donky he recognized as his old one. He wanted to thank the man for helping with his mother. He entered the castle. The old man was sitting at a table and he called "So you planted my beans!" Juanito then relized that the old man might be mad with him for stealing. "Please don't be mad with me. It's just that we are poor and needed the money." The old man looked long and hard at Juanito. "You did not lie to me like the boy named Jack. You are worthy to sell my drink." The old man taught Juanito how to make the drink properly and how it could help mankind. Later as he was leaving the old man turned to him and said "This donky can help you get the beans." And so Juanito left for home. After he got down he told his mother of the old man. Soon after he became rich his mother died of a coffing illness. Not letting it get him down he named the drink coffy after his mothers illness. And he shortened his name to Juan Valdes. Even after he died the world rejoiced and coffey makers from all over the world rejoice his name. And he, his mother, and his donkey lived happiley ever after in the here after. the end |
