“How far have you gone with
her?” Vegeta was in Goku’s flat, pacing in front of his friend who lay sprawled
on the couch with a wet compress over his eyes. Goku was claiming he had a headache
so he wouldn’t have to go to ‘work’ today and face Lunch.
“All the way.” Goku
admitted quietly. He wasn’t the least bit embarrassed anymore, but he wasn’t
exactly happy that Vegeta had found out. “What’s your problem Vegeta?” He
demanded when the shorted man made a sound of disbelief.
“My problem is that I know
you Goku! You get emotionally attached to woman very easily and it’s going to
get in the road of your police work. You’re going to have to arrest her very,
very soon and if you let your emotions get the better of you, you might end up
doing something stupid like letting her get away.” Vegeta halted in front of the
couch and his eyes hardened. “Like Tien did. We both know that he got to
attached to the blue haired slut and so he bugged off with her.”
“Hey! Bulma wasn’t a slut!
She was nice!” Goku defended. He finally sat up and glared back. “You’re just
pissed because you’re stuck with that ice queen Lunch.” Goku grinned as Vegeta
immediately jumped into defence mode.
“Lunch is not….” Vegeta
stopped himself before he could say anything else. “Think what you want, I’m
just warning you that the day after tomorrow we’re going to do a raid on their
base and they’re all going to be arrested, and you are going to be the
one who arrests Eighteen.” With that said Vegeta stormed out of the apartment
and Goku was left in silence.
“What am I going to do?” He asked
desolately.
He knew Vegeta was right,
he was getting to attached to her, but it was hard to remember that she was the
cruel leader of the Red Ribbon Gang when he was so attracted to her. It was
strange but in a way he wished he could have done what Tien did, just run away
with Eighteen. But unlike Bulma, Goku knew that Eighteen could never accept him
as a cop and she’d never leave her gang, she was too attached to them. Which
was a pity since he really cared for her.
In fact if he was true to
himself he was beginning to fall in love with her.
~*~
Eighteen closed her light
blue eyes in pain as she listened to Goku and Vegeta’s conversation. She’d had
their apartment bugged from day one, but this was the first time that they’d
been careless enough to actually discuss police work in there. In fact Eighteen
had been the starting to doubt Lunch’s assessment of them, but now - now she
had proof that both of them were cops.
“What am I going to do?”
Goku’s voice echoed over
the audio and Eighteen opened her eyes as she heard the ashen tone. He sounded
upset about having to arrest her, not just upset but also completely and
utterly lost. For the first time Eighteen realised how stupid it was of her to
get so close to Goku. She’d known that he might have been a cop and yet she’d
fallen into bed with him from day one. It wasn’t her fault though, she’d never
felt anything like what she felt for Goku; he was special to her.
“Well…” Eighteen sat up and
talked to herself. “They said they weren’t going to raid us until the day after
tomorrow, which means that if I can pull off the jewellery store robbery
tomorrow then I easily skip town before he finds me.” Eighteen nodded to
herself, that’s what she’s do. Proceed with the plan normally and then she’d
just leave.
To hell with her gang.
To hell with Lunch.
To hell with Goku.
Tears of pain burnt behind Eighteens
eyes as she began to plan her escape.
~*~
Lunch lay on her bed in her
room all alone. She stared at the ceiling as music played in the background
softly, in her mind she was replaying her kiss with Vegeta in the car and a
million questions were buzzing around her mind…
Was it stupid of her to
have admitted she found Vegeta attractive?
Why had he kissed her
back?
What if Vegeta was
double crossing them like she had suspected?
Did Vegeta find her
attractive in return?
Would he kiss her again?
Lunch turned the music up
louder and remember how Vegeta had tasted like mint, how solid and muscled he’d
felt when she steadied herself on his shoulders and how he had smelt faintly of
some deodorant which Lunch found wildly intoxicating. She hadn’t been affected
by a man like this in a very long time. She was the type who believed in commitment
and had been used by guys so many times that she found it hard to commit
herself to relationships.
Though for Vegeta she might
just have to give into temptation.
She rolled over and smiled
to herself, it had been a long time since she’d had a man in her life. Most of
the men she did like ran screaming for the hills when they found out who she
way. But there was something about Vegeta that Lunch liked. There was violence
in him that was barely contained, a raging fire that the beast dwelt in inside
of him. Even if it turned out that Vegeta was double crossing them Lunch had a
feeling she could make him hers…
~*~
Vegeta drove fast an
dangerously as he headed home, his mind spinning in circles as he tried to
figure out what to do about his newest problem; Lunch.
How could he have kissed
her like that? So she was attractive! So she was everything he’d ever wanted in
a woman! She was still a criminal and in Vegeta’s book that meant look but
don’t touch.
And he’d most definitely
touched her.
Vegeta’s mind kept circling
back to Tien and Bulma; they’d run off together, so maybe Lunch would leave
with him, but could he leave his job? Leave his entire life behind? He wasn’t like
Tien; he wasn’t as carefree or as careless. He had an apartment filled with the
latest high tech gadgets; he had contacts that could supply him with all the
latest weapons. If he left he’d have to start over.
But surely Lunch would have
her own contacts?
But even if she did would
she leave with him? She struck Vegeta as being impulsive and violent, what if
she turned on him and killed him while his back was turned? What if she did the
unthinkable and cheated on him? Vegeta accelerated more as he emotions churned
heatedly. He didn’t know what to do about his problem, all he knew is that he
had two nights left to figure out a solution.

SOMEWHERE IN
~*~
Bulma held the gun at the
store clerk’s head while Tien grabbed the cash from the register, his hands
were slightly shaky but other then that Tien seemed happy - almost buoyant.
“Thanks for your
co-operation.” Bulma smiled sweetly at the store clerk then pulled the trigger
and splattered his brains all over the counter. Tien shook his head and hurried
outside, Bulma close on his heels. “So honey cakes, how was it this time?” She
asked as Tien bounced over to the car.
Tien grinned. Despite not
agreeing with Bulma’s ‘kill everyone who sees my face’ rule he was
having a damned fine time in
“We have to make a name for
ourselves or the other criminals aren’t gonna respect us.” Bulma had adopted a
fake American drawl and she pulled her cowboy hat lower on her head. “Let’s
just go before the coppers come after us, we don’t want another shoot out like
yesterday.”
Tien jumped into the
drivers seat of their red convertible and stepped on the gas, they accelerated
off down the highway until nothing but the dripping of the store clerks brains
onto the floor and the empty cash register were the only signs that the pair
who later became know as ‘The Highway Bandits’ had passed that way.
