The
Lady Kendal paused at the castle door and ushered Piccolo, Bulma and Chichi
out, she paused and considered Bulma for a minute and then gave her a weak
smile. Bulma stared back stonily – a single gesture of kindness would not make
up for the thousands of time she had armed her.
“I’m
sorry my dear…” She started to speak but Bulma forestalled her.
“You
are not sorry.” Bulma smiled icily as the whisper inside of her finally made
sense. She stroked the whisper as it began to fade away and her fey features ran
back onto her face again. “You fear, quite rightly, for your life.”
“Bulma…please…” Lay Kendal smiled weakly, her think withered
arm snaking out to grasp a hold of Bulma. “He was cruel to both of us…”
Bulma
ignored the old woman as she spoke; instead to she turned to Chichi. “I believe
I understand my powers now – the earth and the forest is a part of me. I can
feel everything running through me…” Bulma couldn’t find words to describe what
she was feeling inside of her. It was as though all the past queens had left
remnants of themselves linked in the powers. The whispers had been their voices
–fragments of memories – explaining how to use the power.
Lady
Kendal stared at Bulma’s cat-like eyes and stepped backwards when Bulma
advanced upon her. She reached deep inside of her and pulled on the web which
linked every creature to her –she called the creatures of the forest to her;
the pixies, elves, faeries- any beast ho she could feel inside of her she
called to come – except for Vegeta. She could not feel him inside of her. And
the did come – like a trembling shadow a plague of the most nightmarish and
beautiful creatures swarmed to the castle.
The
lady backed away and with a scream she ran into the castle. Next to Bulma, the
Guard Piccolo dropped to his knees and began to fervently pray. The creatures
waited in front of Bulma, stretching back as far as he could see into the air
and across the ground. Creatures that hadn’t been seen in centuries stared back
at her, waiting for their queen’s orders.
“Destroy
the castle.” Bulma smiled as with shrieking cries the horde swallowed up the
castle, shaking, biting, clawing and using magic to tear it to pieces.
Chichi
laughed delightedly. “We should get as far away as we can, they will send
people out after us as soon as the attack is over – and I don’t relish tackling
with more humans.”
“That
is no problem, the fey have secret entrances to the underworld hidden in the
forest.” Bulma’s eyes glowed black and she turned to face Chichi. “They were
hidden after the last war with the humans…”
“How
do you know all this?” Chichi took Bulma’s hand and dragged her backwards as a
giant chunk of one of the tower spires groaned and fell to the ground,
shattering into boulder-sized chunks of stone.
“I
just…do.”
The
queen of the fey closed her eyes and when they opened again their were their
usual cloudy grey. She sniffed the air and growled thinly. “Day approaches.” With
another tug on the web inside f her Bulma released the horde from her orders
and allowed them to scuttle back into the forest were they were protected from
the rays of the sunlight and from the eyes of man. A stab of pain ran through
Bulma as she felt the sunlight begin to creep across the horizon.
“We don’t have much time…” Bulma grabbed Chichi’s hand
and dragged her towards to the forest. “…Run!”
“Where
are they?” Goku was in Vegeta’s chambers, his hands were bloody from tearing at
the castle but part of him was alight with the feeling that the queen
was truly back. Her power hummed within him, as he knew it must for all of her
subjects. He eyed his king but Vegeta had no answers for him, the surface of
the viewing pool was smooth and black and empty.
“My
king!” A fey soldier burst through the door and bowed to them both, “Queen
Bulma and Chichi have made it back!” The soldiers face was a light with the
same hope and fulfilment as Goku’s. He bowed once more and then turned and ran
as he went to spread the news.
Vegeta
and Goku were silent…then Vegeta turned and kicked the rim of his viewing pool.
“Stupid heap of junk.”
Bulma
and Chichi padded through the darkened corridors silently, their eyes easily
picking out the right route – it was as though the secret entrances were enchanted
to allow fey to take the correct route.
“I
think we’re there.” Chichi walked forward and found herself in front of
Vegeta’s throne room, moments later Bulma stumbled after her…both of them
actually walking through the rock wall behind them. Bulma touched it – but it
was smooth and hard to her touch. Obviously the magic door way was one-sided.
She
strode up to the door and flung it open, inside Vegeta and Goku jumped up from
the chairs y the viewing pool they had been sitting in. Goku rushed to Chichi
and gathered her into his arms in a very uncool and hurried manner while Vegeta
strolled over, gave Bulma a lady killer smile and leisurely kissed her.
“So…did
you get your revenge?” The king watched his queen, sensing something different
about her.
“I
did, I got more then revenge though…”
“Your
powers?” Vegeta asked.
Bulma
nodded. “I understand so much now…”
“Hush,
we will discuss it later. For now I want to tell you something.”
“And
that is?” Bulma managed to smile coyly.
Vegeta
kissed her again. “That I love you and that I don’t care how vengeance filled
you get, you’re never going off hunting humans again. You’re much too important
to risk.”
“Yes
master.” Bulma mockingly bowed as Vegeta took her into his arms. He held her
close and Bulma sank into the embrace – being with Vegeta felt so right. How
she could ever have wanted to trade a life with him for a life above she did
not know. He was a part of her.
“There
is just one more thing Bulma.” Vegeta paused and looked at her with a quirky
smile. “Did you kiss Chichi?”
