GOKU
A brave and heroic warrior, Goku first trained under his grandfather Gohan, who taught him Karate and how to use the staff. He then took his training to the next level under the guidance of Master Roshi, who taught him about energy projection by using the Kamehamea technique. After dying during the fight against his brother Raditz, Goku's spirit underwent training with King Kai, which made him light years more powerful than he had previously been, with techniques such as the Spirit Bomb and the Kao-Ken attack, both of which he had to use against Vegeta.
Piccolo
Piccolo was once Goku's enemy, but teamed up with him to defeat Raditz, since he stood in the way of Piccolo's own plans of world domination. Piccolo is from the planet Namek, and his counterpart Kame is the guardian of Earth and creator of the Dragon Balls. Piccolo eventually gave up his evil ways and joined the special forces, after learning to love by caring for Gohan as his own son in Goku's absence. Piccolo was killed by Nappa, protecting Gohan from an oncoming energy blast.
Krillin
Krillin is Goku's best friend, and a powerful and valiant fighter. He grew up with Goku and trained with him under the tutelage of Master Roshi. Krillin's specialty is the Destructo Disc, a spinning, razor sharp energy projectile.
Gohan
Named after the old man who found his father, Gohan is the youngest and least experienced member of the team. His first real fight came after only a year of training with Piccolo, in which he toughened up from a pampered crybaby into a strong and confident warrior.
Yamcha
When Goku and Bulma first met Yamcha, he was a drifter in search of fortune, and more importantly, a girlfriend. Yamcha was extremely shy around women, and wanted the Dragon Balls to wish himself a girl. He didn't get the Dragon Balls, but his wish did come true when he met Bulma. Yamcha is an expert energy projector, and died when one of Nappa's Saibaman latched onto him and blew up.
Chiaotzu and Tien
Chiaotzu is a white faced dwarf, with a relatively low power level. He died by self-destructing in an attempt to kill Nappa. Tien is his guardian, a three-eyed intense warrior. His specialties are the solar flare and the multi-form technique, two valuable powers which he taught his teammates.
Vegeta
Vegeta came to Earth with his partner Nappa to retrieve the Dragon Balls and grant himself immortality. It didn't come as easily as he expected, since he had Earth's special forces to face. He let Nappa handle them, and stepped into the fight once Goku arrived and took care of Nappa. After being defeated, he took off to recuperate, and eventually ran into Krillin and Gohan on Namek, where he was searching for the Namek Dragon Balls. He is considered one of the most fierce fighters and very fatel, he is able to beat Goku easily but Vegeta has powers hidden and he dosen't know how to uncover them, and now he is considered the king of all saiyans because his father is dead when frieza blew Planet Vegeta up.
Nappa
Nappa is Vegeta's rude and obnoxious teammate, who travelled to Earth with him in search of the Dragon Balls, and immortality. Nappa killed most of the special forces, and was eventually killed by Vegeta after failing to defeat Goku when he arrived to save his friends.
Zarbon
The effeminate Zarbon is a soldier of Frieza's forces, who defeated Vegeta by mutating into a more powerful state. When he encountered Vegeta again however, he was defeated easily, since Vegeta wasn't caught off guard the second time.
The Ginyu Force
Recoom, Burter, Jeice, Guldo, and Ginyu make up Frieza's elite fighting team, who travel to Namek to get the Dragon Balls back from Vegeta.
Dodoria
The pudgy warrior Dodoria is one of Frieza's henchmen. He died in his encounter with Vegeta on the planet Namek, and was no match for the Saiyan prince.
Raditz
Raditz is Goku's evil brother, who came to Earth to recruit him in Vegeta's conquest of the universe. He kidnapped Gohan, and then lost his life to Goku and Piccolo, who put aside their rivalry and teamed up to defeat him.
Frieza
The ruthless Frieza is one the most powerful beings in the universe. He was responsible for the destruction of the planet Vegeta, and he is also the head of the infamous organization of alien races who conquer and sell planets.
TRUNKS
Trunks is Vegeta's and Bulma's son. When he first appears he came from the future. In his timeline the Androids kill most of the Z worriors and Goku dies of a heart attack, but he travels back in time to warn Goku of the arrival of the androids and gives him medicine to prevent his heart attack. For some reason Trunks decides to stay in this timeline for a little while. Even at one point Trunks exists in the same timeline with his younger self. Trunks has a "pure heart" and is a very good and powerful fighter. When Trunks was a child he was best friends with Goten (Goku's second child) and they were inseperatable. They both were very michevious and get into trouble alot.
