Hotaru
Hotaru-chan! The
sailor of death and destruction is also ChibiUsa's best friend ... super, ne?
Tomoe Hotaru lived a perfectly happy life, with her two parents in a mansion.
Their lives were shattered when Hotaru's mother died, and Professor Tomoe dabbled
endlessly in his scientific studies, leaving Hotaru with memories of her once promising
childhood. Things changed for the worse one day when Hotaru and a group of
scientists were in the professor's lab. An explosion killed Hotaru and the people. As
Professor Tomoe begged his daugher's life back, a horrific spirit called the Master Daimon
appeared. He offered an exchange that if Professor Tomoe gave his life, Hotaru would regain hers.
For the sake of his child, he agreed, and the daimon possesed his body, becoming the
senshi's newest adversary; leader of the DeathBusters.
Although her life was back, Hotaru was more lonely than ever. Her classmates
avoided her because of a strange power she had to heal people. However, ChibiUsa saw the
lonely, compassionate friend inside Tomoe Hotaru, and so they became friends.
Meanwhile Hotaru counterparts as the Messiah of Silence, and daimons
are being sent to capture pure hearts that are needed to achieve world
domination by Tomoe. Kaolinite, one of the death busters, goes after ChibiUsa, and
steals her pink heart crystal; the very source of her life. As Mamoru
struggles to
keep her from dying, the pink crystal is fed to Hotaru, transforming her into Mistress9.
The senshi battle her, but the hint of SailorSaturn left inside of Mistress9
is able to break free. Hotaru then appeares in Mamoru's apartment, and gives
her beloved friend her crystal back.
The Master Daimon left Professor Tomoe's body to battle the senshi, and was
finally free from the evil spirit. However, SailorSaturn realized that destroying the
Master Daimon could only be done by her. She succeeded, but killed herself in the process.
Usagi then held the tiny reborn Hotaru. She was returned to her father, and thankfully, it
wasn't too late for them to start over again.
There's something about ChibiUsa and Hotaru's friendship that makes
you appreciate ChibiUsa. Hotaru was alienated by her own peers, but ChibiUsa was
kind enough to see the good person inside of Hotaru. It's not just because ChibiUsa would like to make
friends with everybody in the world (although this is a very noble attribute), but because
she never abandons Hotaru even when she insists it for ChibiUsa's own
safety. It makes Hotaru smile to have friend like ChibiUsa, who
tries extra hard to cheer her up, while charming us at the same time. What do you say to
that, C.U.R.E members? >:)
