Dear Friends,
Welcome! I wanted to take some time and introduce myself to
all of you. The following is a brief auto-biography of my teaching experience. I
am currently employed with Miami Dade County Public Schools and I teach third
grade at Maya Angelou Elementary School.
Upon graduating from college in 1995, I began working
at Liberty City Elementary School as a Kindergarten teacher. Throughout my
instructional curriculum, my students learned self-questioning, investigation
and examination. My students got the most out of their day through this inquiry
base approach.
While working at Liberty City Elementary, I assisted in the
development of a science lab and was involved in the science fair committee as
well as in SECME. In 1999, I
began my Master of Science in Mathematics. During the course of that time, I
was offered an opportunity to teach strictly math and science in the school’s
Gifted Center where I taught 120+ students that were bused in from 16 different
schools throughout region III.
In this capacity, I became heavily involved in grant
writing and became the recipient of many grants. The majority of the grants
that I was awarded were in science. Throughout the 2000-2001 school year, I
received a grant from Space Explores, Inc. Through this grant, the students had
the opportunity to work with NASA and participate in a program with the
International Space Station where they grew seeds in the classroom that were
harvest in outer space and compared the data acquired with schools around the
world.
The following school year (2001-2002), I was awarded a
grant from the National Wildlife Federation (NWF).
The funding for this grant was to create a habitat on the school’s campus for
the students to cultivate and discover in.
Furthermore, I recently achieved certification with the
National Board for Professional Teaching
Standards (NBPTS). To date, I continue
to implement exciting activities that unlock my students’ awareness of the world
around them.
Sincerely,
