As previously noticed, a neighborhood informational meeting was held  regarding a proposal to construct an Indoor Soccer and Baseball facility and outdoor turf soccer field at the San Rafael Airport.

20 or so neighbors turned out to hear a description of the process, project proposal and background on represented need for additional recreational facilities in San Rafael.

Attached are the project plans also see the Files section of the SV-Community e-group for reference.

For more information on the project and process, please contact
San Rafael City Senior Planner Raffi Boloyan at 485-3095.

See a letter written to Marin County Supervisor Susan Adams, and various drawings and plans for the complex.

In another email that will be sent later today you will receive further background information regarding our shortages, and the needs that have been laid out in San Rafael’s General Plan 2020.

  Questions unanswered:
  1. The space occupied by the building for Indoor Soccer,  Baseball cages and Gymnastics could alternatively be another outdoor soccer field. There could be 2 outdoor soccer fields instead of only one.  Is it not true that the demand for outdoor soccer is at least 5 times that for indoor? What figures do we have for outdoor soccer demand vs indoor?
  2. What is to stop the developers installing outdoor lighting at a later date after completion? Is there any kind of legislation ensuring no lights will be installed?
  3. How are the Party Rooms to be utilized?
  4. Is there any guarantee that further development east of the runway will not take place? Is this just a start of bigger development?
  5. Can the fence between the runway and the complex be 6 feet high (instead of 5) and continue into the north fork of Gallinas creek so that people cannot wander off along the levee ? And can it continue south to the hangers so that any access to the levee requires walking thru the hanger area?
  6. Can the fill of 2 feet and the necessary pilings ensure it wont sink? What will stop the parking lots from sinking? Can this cost only $3-4 million?
  7. When will the Sierra Club, the Marin Conservation League, County Commissioners and the Audibon Society be asked for comments?
  8. Of the 7 sites looked at prior to the Airport what factors make this the site of choice?
  9. What is to stop a footbridge being built to McGinnes park?
