Question 2. Issues
Chapter 25 Pg 272 Item 7
Lesson 6 #2
Posted July 24, 1999
Sex on the Information Superhighway
You sure you want a link?
Sharing of information with the goal of advancing understanding and
knowledge is what the Internet is all about. While I am not into
"swinging" and am disgusted by kiddie porn I have to admit to spending
some time at some pornographic sites. While many have joined together to
offer their combined services these sites are some of the most competitive
online. The layout and use of multimedia on the better sites is astounding.
I have acquired some great code from some of these
sites as well as a better understanding of the "swingers" lifestyle.
I wonder if these type of sites were not online if we
would have had the amount of advancement we have had in multimedia?
Like the space program and the military has resulted in technological
advances, I believe that some of the advances we have seen in multimedia
have come about as a result of the people behind these sites. For example,
you can now buy a color computer camera for under $69.00.
As far as the really bad stuff . . . law enforcement officers are already
cracking down on some of these people and while there is a lot out there
I feel a case may not have been made
on some of these perverts if they were not online.

Finally . . . we go back to the much debated question of what is considered
pornographic? Yesterday's porn is considered pretty mild by today's standards.
It is interesting to note some of the hairstyles, poses, and body shapes
that were considered alluring.
I wonder what future generations will
think of our offerings?

Question 3. Emerging Technologies -
A Computer that Talks and can be used like a Telephone.
Using the computer as a telephone and conferencing device is fast changing
how we work and play.
While many of the telephone companies are complaining about the loss
of revenue they need to get
out of their horse and buggy and jump into the automobile! Some have
come around and that is good to see.
It's amazing to note that a small company in Germany can have such
a profound affect on the world
in four short years. We are indeed becoming a Global Community and
economy.
Just before classes started I experimented with talking with my Nephew
via computer using a free program called
Roger Wilco
http://www.resounding.com/
It is like using a walkie-talkie. Essentially it records and sends your messages back and forth. Pretty cool.
Another free download can be used with ICQ to speak with others having
ICQ.

In this lesson, we will take a look at FTP, do some critical thinking
about
societal issues and the future direction of the Internet. Additionally,
you
will also be able to explore some fun concepts such as sound files,
free stuff,
IRC chat and conferencing.
Please note that it is not necessary to do
every question. You must do
Question 1, Question 2 and Question 3. Then pick 4 more questions
from the
remaining 9 questions. That makes a total of 7 questions.
Question 2 should be
posted to the Forum under the Discussion area. Question 4 should
be sent to the

to team feature.
All other answers should be sent to me via e-mail.
