by Vene T. Yates

Procedures for obtaining an Internet Domain Name:

First need to check on the availability of the domain name by using a Domain Name searching tool.

Checked into the availability of names suitable for Black Child and the Family Institute which is the sponsor of the Closing The Gap program. BCFI is taken.

bcfinstitute.org (.com and .net available)

bcfionline.org (also .com and .net)

aboutbcfi.org (also .com and .net)

bcfiorg.com (also bcfiorg.org and bcfiorg.net)

Next Step involves providing the following information, hitting submit or mailing an agreement form (depending on the registrar) and then waiting 3 to 5 days for the Internet DN servers around the world to get updated.

The following outline is taken from the online form and registration procedure provided by http://OneStopRegistrar.com

To "Park" a new site, check with your ISP. All pay for services I've looked into provide some web space for customers as part of their service. Worth looking into until you settle on a webhost. Some registrars also offer free parking service. Sites to checkout for web hosting: http://webstrikesolutions.com

One item that is of some concern is that the two typical terms associated with domain name registration records is not used in the online form. Specifically the titles shown when a "whois" inquirey is performed are Administrative Contact, Technical Contact and Billing Contact. Administrative contact is considered the "owner" of the site and a written release is required from this contact in the event of the sale of the domain name.
