The demographics of consumers who buy on the Internet is beginning to change. The early Internet consumers have been primarily affluent tech-centric individuals; the population is beginning to expand beyond that base. This pull represents increased opportunities for Internet commerce solutions providers; as more consumers become interested in buying on the Internet, more businesses will be interested in targeting those customers online. This report, based on interviews with 500 consumers, examines changing buyer demographics and how they impact online businesses. Internet commerce is changing the purchasing landscape, and creating a number of new issues and opportunities for purchasing managers. This report, based on 100 interviews with purchasing managers, examines issues such as EDI replacement, improved supplier relationships, buy-side commerce, buying communities on the Internet, purchasing efficiency, and the role of purchasing in the Internet buying process.
