A solid introduction to the Web which provides good basic information
without burdening one with tons of details. It is organized like a
book with
eight chapters that have a summary and quiz at the end of each chapter.
The designers used a "Courier New" font and basic black line graphics
which results in quick loading pages. I wish someone had provided
this
resource to me when I first started online.
This is the oldest catalog of the web, started by Tim Berners-Lee, the
creator of the web itself. It is run by a loose confederation of volunteers,
who create pages of key links for particular areas in which they are
expert.
The VL pages are widely recognized as being amongst the highest quality
guides to particular sections of the web.
Lots of links to information for those just beginning their online journeys.
Advanced topics such as JavaScript are also covered.
How to design your pages, keeping the search engines in mind. Knowledge
of what a search engine is going to do with your page, while you are designing
it, allows you to build a web page that will get the "hits" your hardwork
deserves.
The Portal King. Besides being the first Internet directory, this
site offers a mapping service, news headlines, and free E-mail to subscribers.
My Yahoo! is the part of Yahoo! that lets you create a customized web site
newspaper. You fill out a brief form that asks for your news preferences,
and My Yahoo! delivers the information that meets your criteria. It even
offers a customizable TV Guide. Personal preferences can be changed at
any time.
The Web site version of the publishers of PC Novice magazine. The people
who provided the first guide I bought to learn how to use the Internet
and build web sites.
