Hi all just saw Daredevil tonight and I got to say it was better than what I had expected but didn't exceed my expectation (and no movie to date has done that). As you all know am a Spiderman fan boy, inside I truly wanted daredevil to suck so Spiderman can still be the best superhero movie to date, but even though I went in the theater expecting to hate the damn movie I actually thought it was good, just a little short of being great due to things I will mention in the review later on.
I will start of by saying the marvel logo in the beginning gave me the chills. The movie starts off with daredevil wounded on the cross, than later on when he's in the church we get a flash back of all that happenings that led to the scene. The one thing I loved most in the movie was how they handled the radar sense; it was amazing, specially the first time he realizes his gift or curse in the hospital. It really gives you a feeling what it would be like if you were Matt discovering your newfound powers for the first time.
Another good thing in the movie was the love between Ben and Jen, it had a feeling like Romeo and Juliet because they had only known each other for about 1 month or even less and had so much love for each other (you know what I mean). The kiss scene on the rooftop was great, probably one of my favorite scenes in the movie. The only thing I didn't like was the death of Elektra, they could have added some emotion to the scene and all but it was still all good.
Even though daredevil is a very dark movie it has some humor, I particularly enjoyed it very much. It was sort of needed because it was very dark movie and had to get some laughs along the way to keep things smooth; it was done perfectly.
All and all daredevil couldn't have been such a great movie if it weren't for actor Ben affleck, many people seemed to think he couldn't pull it off but he proved them wrong. Ben affleck was just incredible in the movie; he pulled off matt Murdock just as good as he did daredevil. I can’t say the same for Jennifer or Duncan because they didn't really do anything incredible acting wise, Kingpin was barely in the movie, and we only saw him in three or four short scenes. I also enjoyed Collin Farrell as Bullseye, he might have looked like he was overacting in the clips but he was good in the movie, but I can’t say he stole the movie, but he was good nonetheless.
One thing that superhero movies forget are the fights because they are interesting and nearly perfect in the comic books but don't seem to transfer well to the big screen due to the budget and the cgi issues. Directors don't seem to realized comic book movies need great fights, but daredevil does it again. Action scenes in Daredevil are very good, they are well choreographed and are shot beautifully, even though some of the editing might be annoying it still has some of the best fights in a superhero movie, they’re right up there with blade 2. Cant forget the cartwheel kick that knocks Bullseye off his motorcycle.
Now one of the things that didn’t work was the editing. I have to say this movie has some of the worse editing I have ever seen in my life. The scene with Foggy and Matt when he gets the invitation is edited very badly as far as I can tell you can tell they cut out some stuff from that scene.
Many people have been complaining about the music, and I agree it does get annoying at times, but it still doesn't ruin your enjoyment of the movie, so it’s not that big of a deal.
I am really nitpicking here but I didn't like the cgi in the movie, but I don't even care considering it had a cgi budget of 6 million dollars. Some of the human movements are weird as always, but I don't care for CGI. It doesn't ruin the movie for you and there is really little cgi used in the movie.
Daredevil is the best comic book movie to date after Spider-man. It had some flaws but was really enjoyable and my second best superhero movie to date after Spider-man.
