Marlis took me to a small city called
Augsburg. It is about 60 km north west of Muenchen.
Fuggerei is a city within Augsburg. It was built by a rich guy who was
called Fugger. He built these houses and rented them to those who were less
fortunate at a very low price. When I was there, I heard the price had just
gone up. It has been raised from 1.7 DM per year to 2.6. Fuggerei has its
own gate. It is self surfficient. Four fifths of it was flatterned during
the WWII. Residents of Fuggerei re-built the whole place without getting
outside help.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's great great grand father stayed there for a while.
That unit has been converted into a museum.
