I was searching for MB info for summer camp next week when I came across your site. I am a 1977 grad of ELHS and grew up in Flanders. I participated in scouting in EL and was a member of the group that did a 100 mile hike (the first I believe) while remapping a portion of the appalachan trail. I am now the advancement chairman for Yorkville troop 40 which has 72 scouts. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Paul

Please forgive my intrusion onto your website, but I would like to offer the services of my new outdoor company, the High Plains Outdoor Institute (HPOI) of Laramie, Wyoming to h lp you further your High Adventure program. HPOI is dedicated to the training of people interested in learning, or trying new outdoor skills. HPOI specializes in mountaineering, ski mountaineering, climbing and whitewater rafting. My own troop (BSA T-1 6) has utilized the Institute many times in the promulgation of our high adventure activities. When we don’t need guides, we utilize the Institute’s rental gear for specialized trips, including our own whitewater rafting and mountaineering programs. For example, one adventure training class offered by HPOI is Whitewater Rafting. This is more than just another whitewater ride. On this course you will, with the help of a guide/coach, scout rapids and captain your own boat through them. You will also learn skills such as rigging your boat, reading rapids, oarsmanship, guiding, and everything necessary to run your own whitewater trip. This is all applicable for the Venture Boating requirements, and the BSA whitewater merit badge as well. We also prov de a similar and exciting courses in rock climbing and mountaineering. We also provide classes in swiftwater rescue, high angle mountaineering rescue, and Red Cross certified first aid.
