Mony. She’s all I could think about. I remembered the day that I met her. My brothers and I were at the park when our friend Taylor ran up to us, telling us that her friends were visiting. When I saw Mony’s long black hair and brown eyes, I know that this girl is special. I remembered her incredible grip. Man, that chick is so strong! The best thing is that the two girls, Mony and Andy moved here! They’re staying with Taylor and her sister, Jordan.
Taylor is now going out with my triplet brother, Clint. I remember their first kiss. Whoa, that was a classic! Taylor jumped off a bridge, and pretended to drown. Clint found her, and gave her mouth to mouth. Well, instead of mouth to mouth, she kissed him!

I’m now lying on my bed and staring at the ceiling. Why am I doing that instead of going out and having fun? Well, it’s because I am sick! I think it’s a cold or something! It’s so not fair! It’s spring break and I’m supposed to be having fun! I lifted my head. Ooh, that was not a good idea. My head is starting to throb. Oh, I’m gonna hurl. Ok, I’m kidding, but you know the feeling, right? I turned my head and fell off my bed. Hey that rhymes! Well anyway, my head is hurting, I fell out of my bed and things can’t get any more embarrassing, until…

“Dave, what the heck are you doing?”
Oh shit. Here we go. Humiliation. I groaned.
Someone kneeled down beside me. I turned my head and saw an angelic face. It was Mony.
“Mony, what are you doing here?” I asked, looking up at her.
“Well Dave,” she said, lifting my head and placing it on her lap, “I kinda got sick of the mall, and it’s no fun without you there, because you’re the only other talkative one there. Besides, I shouldn’t leave you here all alone sick, right?”
She is so sweet. It’s true that I’m talkative, but I can be quiet too. Did I tell you that I want a girl who is talkative and funny?
Mony started to rub my temples with her fingertips. Man, was that relaxing! I closed my eyes…

“Dave?”
I opened my eyes. Mony was looking down at me.
“Dave, it’s time for dinner.”
Dinner? What the heck? It’s only 1:00pm!
“What time is it?” I asked groggily.
“It’s 6:00.” Mony said. “You fell asleep.”
“And you stayed with me, all this time?” I asked.
“Yeah.” She blushed. “You’re special.”
I smiled. Mony helped me up. I was feeling much better now. I looked down at Mony. She’s a head shorter than I am. She’s small, with a small frame, big brown eyes and a really cute smile.
Mony looked at my clothes and started to laugh. I followed her gaze and nearly passed out. I was wearing my Scooby Doo T-shirt and boxers! Oh my god!
“I’m gonna change.” I said.
“No, don’t!” Mony stopped me. “You look adorable!”
Remind me to wear this every time I see her at home.
We walked downstairs and joined my family for dinner. Taylor, her sister Jordan and her friend Andy were eating with us. Gil, our other friend was supposed to join us, but he is on vacation with his family.
“Hey Dave, feeling better?” Jordan asked when Mony and I reached the table.
“Much better.” I grinned.
“So, what happened today?” Mony asked.
“We brought something for you and Dave, since you two didn’t come with us.” Said Taylor.
“Why thank you!” Mony said.
Andy pulled out 2 shopping bags and gave one to Mony and one to me. Mony looked into hers and shrieked! She pulled out a teddy bear, an *N Sync notebook and a ‘Lance’ necklace.
“Thank you so much!” Mony cried, hugging everyone. We all know that Mony is a major *N Sync fan. She especially loves Lance Bass. You know, he’s the bass singer of the group? Anyway, aren’t you curious about what’s in my bag?
I peeked into my bag. Inside, it was a get well card, a teddy bear, and a little box. Hmmm…
I opened the box and gasped. Did you know what’s in there?! It’s an ID bracelet that was engraved:

Dave & Mony
Soul Mates

OH MY GOD! I closed the box and shoved it back into the bag.
“What is it?” asked Mony.
“Nothing.” All of us except for her said.
Ok my god… my heart is pounding. Oh my god. Breathe David. Just breathe.
“Dave, breathe.” Clint said.
“I am!” I took a deep breathe.
“Surprised, aren’t ya?” asked Scott.
“Hell yeah.”
“What’s in the box?” Mony asked.
“You don’t need to know, yet.” Bob said.
“Ok.” She shrugged.
Mony is like that, she doesn’t have to know everything. She doesn’t really care if people don’t tell her stuff.
“Hey guys,” Scott said, changing the subject, “when we come back from spring break, we’re gonna have to do swimming for gym class.”
“Man, I love swimming!” said Taylor.
“We know!” we said.
“I hate swimming! I can’t swim!” Mony groaned.
“You’re kidding, right?” I asked.
“Not kidding.” Mony replied.
“She’s not kidding, Dave. This girl is terrified of water.” Said Andy.
“Why?”
“When I was younger, I was on a boat trip with my family, when a storm came and the boat tipped over, throwing my whole family and I into the water.” Said Mony.
“Oh no!” we cried.
“Then…” Mony started to sob in her hands.
I reached out and placed a comforting arm around her. She reached out and hugged me, sobbing in my shoulder. I looked helplessly at the others.
Mony lifted her shoulder and looked at us.
“Sorry.” She cleared her throat. Her face was tearstained. She wiped her face. “My sister and little brother were drowned.”
Oh my god. Oh my god.
“I’m so sorry…” I said, hugging her again.
“And from then on, Mony has been terrified of water.” Said Andy.
“That must be horrible!” cried Clint.
“It was.” Mony said softly.
“Sorry Mon, but you have to take swimming for gym, or else you’ll fail the grade!” cried Bob.
“I know.” Mony groaned.
“You know what we can do?” asked Jordan. “We can go to the community pool and swim for a while. Of course Dave, if you’re feeling better.”
“Oh I feel better already. I’ll be fine.” I said.

“Dammit Scott! Enough with the water gun!”
I laughed. I was sitting at the edge of the shallow end. The girls aren’t here yet. Us guys are fooling around, and Scott is totally soaking Clint and Bob with the water gun. Surprisingly, the pool was empty. No one was around. Then I heard laughter coming from the girls change room. Then, one by one, the girls walked out of the change room. Jordan, wearing a red bikini with yellow swirls all over it. Next came Taylor, wearing a navy blue suit. Then came Andy wearing a green and orange suit, and last came Mony, wearing a black suit with red, blue, yellow and green stars all over it. Whoa, she looks incredible.
Taylor ran to the diving board and jumped down, creating an incredible splash, totally soaking everybody.
“What the heck?!” cried Scott, wiping the water out of his eyes.
Andy, Taylor and Jordan laughed and jumped into the pool, leaving Mony standing, looking terrified.
I lifted my legs out of the water and walked over to her.
“Mony, come with me into the water.” I said softly.
“No Dave.” She said, tears forming in her eyes.
“Please, I promise I’ll hold on to you no matter what.” I said, taking her hand.
Mony and I walked slowly to the edge of the pool. I slipped into the water. Ooh it’s cold! Anyway, Mony shivered. I took both of her hands and led her down the steps. Step by step her grip became stronger and stronger. God, she’s strong! My hands are starting to hurt.
“Mony, can you loosen your grip a little?” I asked softly. Mony laughed a little and loosened her grip on my hand. We walked into the waist deep water. Mony stopped trembling.
“Ok. I can do this.” She took a hand full of water and she splashed me!
The next thing I knew, we started a major water fight! I guess Mony’s fear of water is over!

~*~*~

“Monica Adams, please jump off the diving board.”
Oh my god. The first thing we have to do in our swimming lesson is diving. And since Mony’s last name is Adams, she has to jump first. I watched her climb the ladder and walked onto the board. She was shaking! Oh, that’s not good. She walked to the edge of the diving board and stopped.
“I can’t do it!” Mony cried.
“You little wimp!” screamed the swimming instructor.
What a bitch!
“Give her some slack.” I heard Clint say to her. “She has some tough experiences with water.”
“I don’t care.” Said the swimming instructor, Betsy. She looked up at Mony. “Do it, or you’ll fail gym!”
I couldn’t take it anymore! I looked at Betsy straight in the eye. “Look you little bitch,” I said with gritted teeth, “Mony is having a tough time with water, and if you keep on insulting her and pressuring her, I’ll beat the shit out of you.”
“Oh I’m so scared!” Betsy laughed.
That’s it! I shoved Betsy with all my might, whistle, clipboard and all, and she fell into the water with a splash.
Mony started to laugh uncontrollably. She slipped and fell into the 12 feet deep water!
I waited for her to surface, but after a while Mony’s still under water. Betsy already got out and was making no effort to save her, so I jumped into the water. I dove down and saw Mony. Her eyes were opened wide in terror and I could tell that she was running out of oxygen. I grabbed her waist and kicked as hard and as quick as I could to the surface. Mony and I took a deep breath. She was safe. Her arms wrapped around my neck as I swam to the edge of the pool. I helped Mony get out of the pool and got out myself. Taylor handed us two towels for us. We wrapped our wet bodies and sat down on the bench and listened to the head swimming instructor yell at Betsy.
“You’re a swimming instructor, and your job is to teach the students how to swim, not drown them!”

“I’m never ever swimming again! I was so scared!” Mony cried, brushing her tangled wet hair. Her comb caught onto a knot in her hair, “Ouch!”
I took the comb away from her, and started to untangle her hair. Her hair was long, but it’s really soft and silky. And then there’s my hair, spiky and messy…
“Thanks Dave.” She said, giving me a peck on the cheek.
“For what?” I asked. “Untangling your hair?”
“That, and for blowing Betsy off and saving me.”
“Oh.” I smiled.
Mony… man, I still really like her. She’s been one of my really good friends, and I met her around 2 weeks ago. I’m thinking that Mony and I are soul mates. I really think that it true.
I grabbed her waist and started to swing her around.
“Dave!” she squealed. “Put me down!”
I put her down and she faced me. I leaned down and kissed her softly. Hey! She’s kissing me back! When I pulled apart, she smiled.
“I was hoping you’d do that.” She said.
I smiled. I can’t believe I did that! I was glad I did! I kissed her again.
Then I pulled out the Soul Mates bracelet they got me, and put it on her wrist.
“We’re soul mates.” I said.
“You better believe it!” Mony laughed.

The End
