This fierce and forceful dancer has come a long way from her native New York home. Vergi has never forgotten her Latina roots and has always stayed focused on what she wanted: "To be working with the best artists and performing in front of thousands of people." At an early age Vergi pursued her goal with a fierce intensity. She states that dance is her best form of self expression. But, it was also a passion that always came from within.
Vergi started her training at the age of seven at the Harlem Children's Theater. After doing several off Broadway shows she continued her training at various New York City dance schools. A couple of years later, Vergi had to decide what high school to go to. She auditioned for The New York City High School of Performing Arts (The Fame School) and was accepted. This is where she spent many hours training to perfect her skill.
Soon after graduating from the "Fame" school it would not be long before Vergi began choreographing within the Latin music industry. She worked for the likes of El General, Tito Puente, Jr., artists with RMM Records and HOLA Recordings. In 1995 she choreographed for the rap duo sensation Sandy & Papo MC. She traveled throughout Latin America and parts of Europe. After two years of touring, she returned to New York and landed a spot in the New Power Generation Dance Company (NPG). NPG was artistically directed by Mayte Garcia Nelson, at the time wife of The Artist formerly known as Prince. In collaboration with Nightmare Creations, a choreography duo from Los Angeles, Vergi was offered the opportunity to input some of her own choreography. In November of 1997 the short lived show was canceled and Vergi decided to relocate to Los Angeles.
Since her move to the City of Angeles her career has been on the rise and is on the brink of a huge cross over. Vergi choreographed for Whitney Houston during the 1999 Soul Train Music Awards and has been offered to choreograph tours for new and upcoming artists.
She recently finished choreography on the upcoming MGM film "Soul Plane" which stars Tom Arnold and D.L. Hughley. Soul Plane will be released May 2004.Vergi dances with extraordinary excitement, emotion and power that captivates audiences everywhere. She possesses the natural ability to showcase emotions through her choreography. For Vergi dance is not merely an art, but a way to become part of the rhythm of the Universe. Vergi does not see dancing as entertainment, but as a celebration of life.
