You should always preserve your original Content, or make back-up copies of such Content, on your personal system. You should not use the Service as the only repository or other source for your Content.

Hi-res photos: 1612 x 1024 pixels
Low-res photos: 900 x 600 pixels
Screen resolution photos (the large size photos you view in your account): 420 x 280 pixels

Thumbnail resolution photos (the very small photos you see in full album view): 96 x 64 pixels Top

The thumbnail system removes the need to search for digital pictures using original file names, which makes it difficult for many digital camera owners to find the photo they need.

Canon High-Definition Camcorder (HV20)

MiniDV: MiniDV media keeps this camcorder compact for easy transport. Weighing less than a pound, it's perfect for one-handed operation.

High-definition recording: Capture your surroundings in true 1080 high-definition resolution video. The 16:9 format gives you professional, top-quality video. This camcorder also has a standard definition option for viewing on non-HD equipment.

CMOS technology: The HV20 has a CMOS processing chip rather than a CCD. CMOS chips allow for more precise image processing which means that individual pixels can be targeted for correction rather than the entire image, which is how most CCDs work. Also, CMOS chips perform a lot more of the image processing on-chip, which cuts down on power consumption.

10x optical zoom: Canon’s HV20 comes with a high-definition video lens with 10x optical zoom. It's the lens you need to record long shots and has five pre-set zoom speeds for smooth, steady zoom shots.

Widescreen 2.7" LCD: A large, colorful display makes it easy to compose and review your shots. You can see exactly what your camcorder is recording and what your widescreen TV will display later.

Digital stills: With 3.1-megapixel digital still capability, you can capture brilliant photographs onto a mini SD card and there’s no need to dig into your bag for your other camera, just point and shoot. You can also record digital stills while recording to capture the exact moment you want from your video. Top

Image stabilization: The HV20 features optical image stabilization through a wider range of camera motions—from the fast vibrations of a car to the slower sway of your natural body movement, this camcorder ensures a steady, clear recording.

Remote control: A wireless remote control lets you operate your HV20 from a distance, so you won't be left out of the picture.

Additional features: Auto focus, low light performance and an electronic lens cover increase convenience. Plus, IEEE 1394 firewall, HDMI and microphone terminal ports are included for a variety of output options.

It’s sad but true: sometimes more megapixels in a camera just means more giant, blurry and generally awful pictures. Luckily the 12-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100 has shake reduction and improved autofocus to sharpen things up.

Another category of scanner are digital camera scanners which are based on the concept of reprographic cameras. Due to the increasing resolution and new features such as anti-shake, digital cameras become an attractive alternative to regular scanners. While still containing disadvantages compared to traditional scanners, digital cameras offer unmatched advantages in speed and portability. Top

Wide angle converter lens

20-7-07

The wide angle effect broadens the angle of view, while increasing the depth of field, do objects near and far are in focus at the same time. Great for cityscapes, outdoor panoramas, room interiors, and group shots.

It’s easy to understand the effect of a wide angle conversion lens. For example, a 0.56x wide angle lens converts a 38mm lens into a 21.3mm lens (0.56 times 38). Top

Close-Up Lenses

Capture more detail by optically enlarging the image. Think of the creative images you can take of flowers, insects, coins, jewelry, and collectables. Plus, close-up photography has many scientific and industrial applications, such as recording medical/dental work, and cataloging miniaturized components.

Digital cropping and enlarging with PC software reduces image quality, because you’re taking the same number of pixels and spreading them across a greater area. With the Tiffen Close-Up Lens set, you can get as close as a couple of inches from your subject, and still maintain image resolution and clarity.

Looking for Macro photography capabilities without spending a large sum of money? There are several ways to accomplish this. Extensions tubes are one of the least expensive methods. The Canon 500D Close-up Lens is another.

The Canon 500D Close-up Lens is a small double-element lens that threads onto the filter threads on a standard (non-macro) lens. It allows that lens to be focused at a much closer distance- resulting in a higher magnification of the subject. The Canon 500D Close-up Lens is intended to be used on lenses with a focal length of 70mm-300mm.

Close-up lenses such as the Canon 500D Close-up Lens result in higher magnification when used with longer telephoto lens but shorter focal length lenses result in higher magnification when used with Extension Tubes.

At the time, I had a decision to make. Use the Canon 500D Close-up Lens on my Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens or purchase a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens for my macro photography.

I gave the 500D a try first. The quality of the Canon 500D Close-up Lens is very good. I found the Canon 500D Close-up Lens to be reasonably sharp in the center - but less sharp toward the edges. Top

However, I personally found the narrow focus distance range to be limiting. In addition, the quality of the pictures taken with the Canon 100mm Macro Lens were better. And I could take a wider variety of pictures with the 100mm than with the Canon 500D Close-up Lens attached to another lens.

So why would you buy the Canon 500D Close-up Lens?

If you are carrying a non-macro lens regardless and you want macro capabilities without the added weight and size of a macro lens, the Canon 500D Close-up Lens is perfect for you.

If you have a lens in the 70-300mm range and do not have the budget for a prime (fixed focal length) macro lens, the Canon 500D Close-up Lens is a prospect for you.

If you only want to shoot at macro distances infrequently, the Canon 500D Close-up Lens might be what you want. Top

The 35mm "Full-Frame" vs. DX size digital sensor controversy is caused by a general lack of "digital sensor" knowledge on the part of many users, and strong marketing propaganda on the part of some sellers.

Look at it this way. If the sensor's pixels are like a deep bucket, they need to be hit directly from the top to enter. If you tossed a ball into a bucket, it will go in easily if it's dropped in from overhead. But, if you toss it in from an angle there is a good chance it will bounce off the rim and not go into the bucket. (Which is why the basketball leagues pay so much to those who can get the ball in the hoop regularly) Light behaves the same way as the ball. 35mm lenses are not designed to bring light directly into the bucket (pixel), but instead cause the light to come in at a greater angle progressively as you move toward the edge of the lens. With 35mm film there are no pixel buckets, just random silver grains, so angle doesn't matter as much.

This is called light "falloff," and causes the edge of the image to be dimmer. The larger the sensor is, the worse the angle the light hits the edges. So a full-frame sensor is destined by the laws of physics to have significantly more light falloff than a DX sized-sensor. In many cases the falloff can be as much as two full stops of light. Top

Maybe someday digital sensors won't require microlenses, and will accept angled light more like film. When that happens I'm sure Nikon will come out with a full-frame sensor, and, as usual, will continue to overstep the competition in ergonomics, quality, and features. Until then, give me my DX-sized sensor with low-noise, no light fall-off, better edge color, greater depth of field, and higher resolution!

Can a digital camera produce images rivaling the best 35mm transparencies? Up until now, maybe not. But, with the introduction of the Nikon D2x, you may want to look seriously at the benefits of digital imaging again!

From my own personal experience with the D2x, the Image quality is not just equal to or better than the best 35mm, but even approaches scanned medium format film images. No more film scanning for me! Top

The 4GB, 6GB and 8GB Microdrives need a camera or device that is compatible with the FAT-32 file system to access its capacity beyond 2GB.

5-4-2008 Photoshop CS4
What does 64 bits get you, anyway? Chiefly, an easier way for a processor and software to use more than 4GB of memory. In addition, the 64-bit versions of Intel and AMD x86 chips incorporate more data storage slots called registers that can improve performance.

Based on Adobe's preliminary testing, the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS4 will give a performance kick of about 8 percent to 12 percent compared with the 32-bit version. For one particular task--opening up a huge 3.2-gigapixel file on a system with a lot of memory--the 64-bit version is 10 times faster because it doesn't have to write the data that won't fit in memory onto a relatively slow hard drive.

Before taking your shot, it's a good idea to measure the white-point of the image and set your camera accordingly. This will save you lots of color-balancing work later in Photoshop. For most digital cameras, this is done by selecting the Measure White-point feature on your camera and holding the shutter halfway down. The camera will then measure the light of your image and base the white-point on the particular lighting you are using. If you can't measure the white-point manually, some cameras will let you choose from a menu of presets, such as Tungsten, Fluorescent, or Daylight. Set your camera appropriately to get the best color balance possible.
