PROJECT 2:  PRE COLUMBIAN TIMES
For project 2, I decided to explore the Aztec culture.  The Aztec culture revolved around religion, agriculture and war.
My first website is Aztec Art-www.dosmanos.com/learning_aztec.htlm/. I really liked this website because it explained how the Aztec culture survived. I had no prior knowledge of what the Aztec's culture was like. The Aztec's were from Tenochtitlan located in central Mexico during the Postclassic period. The Aztec's culture was agricultural; they planted vegetables, flowers medicinal herbs that were used for survival. They did this by using tools made of wood and stone. They also hunted and fished for food in order to survive.

Religion was very important to the Aztec culture. They build huge pyramid temples to honor their gods. Their lives revolved around their religion. They had rituals for almost everything that happened like birth, seasons and death. Animals like rabbits, hummingbirds, and foxes were also part of their religion.

In Aztec culture war was very important. They made their weapons from wood and stone. They wore appropriate costumes according to their ranks, which were used during combat. They also sacrificed people because they believed it would keep the sun moving. They had their own customs and beliefs, which they glorified. Women would cook and men would provide the food. They had their own calendars that were based on the sun and the planet Venus.
The second website is Valley of the Moon www.archaeology.la.asu.edu/teo/. In this website I found beautiful pictures of the Aztec's pyramids.
The Aztec people were very religous so they build pyramids to worship their gods.

My third website is about Aztec Art -http//eloisegift.org/art2htlm/ In this website you will find different art pictures and their meanings. I really liked this website because it gives you a lot of information about how the Aztec people had many ways of expressing their culture through art.
One of these art works is the Temple of the sacred warefare, wich is believed to have been the throne of Moctezuma. The eagle on a cactus is a detail of a relief found on the back of this famous Aztec monument. This is a significant pre-Hispanic icon. The eagle is a symbol that represents the sun, a young warrior who is born each morning and dies in the evening. It represents a constant battle that they go through each day to survive and the need of sacrifice.
