The Sun, the Sea
| I live in Aberdeen, however, and
so was lucky enough to see the band (supporting Ride) in March 1992. I
had heard of the band before hand but had not heard much by them so I went
with an open mind. I got right to the front (although The Capitol is an
awful all seater venue) and waited.
The atmosphere the band managed to create before they even came on stage was amazing and had the whole audience (most of whom had never heard of Verve) captivated. The swirling lights and eerie music signified the beginning of one of my all time gig experiences (and I've been to a few (Spike Island, Glasto etc)). The band were quite simply amazing and took my breath away. They performed brilliantly and Richard's antics soon had the crowd screaming their appreciation. By the time the feedback had subsided and I realised the band had left the stage, I was converted and Verve have been head and shoulders above the competition, in my opinion, ever since (they were ten times better than Ride by the way). Noel Gallagher has been quoted a few times as saying that Oasis are no where near as good as The Verve which I definately agree with. Review by Robert Lewis |
