THE INTERVIEW SESSIONS

7 days of madness...the best fuckin' rock'n'roll tour this country has ever seen!

What a barren and soulless world it would it be without The Verve.  With 'Urban Hymns' the best British band of the 1990's have produced the seminal album of the decade.   After an acrimonious split in 1995 threatened to prematurely derail the burgeoning talent exhibited within the remarkable 'Northern Soul', the band reformed in 1997 and roared back with the quite breathtaking 'Urban Hymns'.  The album produced the hit singles 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' 'The Drugs Don't Work' ' Sonnet' and the awesome 'Lucky Man'.  Formed in 1990 in Wigan, Nick McCabe, Richard Ashcroft, Simon Tong, SImon Jones and Peter Salisbury began laying the foundations of the voluminous sound with the debut album 'A Storm in Heaven'.  After a bout of extensive touring 'Northern Soul' followed tow years later leaving the music critics, and record buying public alike, simply stunned.  As 'A New Decade', 'On Your Own' and 'History' seeped into the collective consciousness it appeared that the saviours of British rock had arrived.  However, citing personal and musical differences The Verve proceeded to shatter all that optimism by announing their split.  For the next two years rumours of reconciliation constantly appeared in the music press.  Thankfully, the band did manage to patch up their differences, returning with the fabulous 'Urban Hymns', thus cementing their place within the highest echelons of British music.  However, in a cruel twist of fate, rumours are again surfacing about the imminent demise of the band, which hopefully will prove to be without foundation.  1999 desperately needs a new release from The Verve.  Chatback Records is delighted to present this fascinating interview that offers some insight into the workings of the band, their influences, the creative process, and the rigours of touring.
