My life on the net:
I feel that the web was made for me. I am able to do many things which I wasn't able to do before. Particularly Socializing, accessing information and shopping. Although I still have real life friends my online friends also mean a lot to me. In the past I used to get desperately lonely when I lived alone. Particularly at night. Now I just have to switch on my computer and log into a message board/chat room. In fact Chat rooms tend to be mostly active late at night and in the early hours of the morning. I feel that people on line treat me more as an equal then I am treated in real life. My favorite message board is Pensieve. About Harry Potter.
I also shop on the net. Particularly things like vegan/organic food. Which would be hard for me to find in normal shops because I need to learn the route to the shop I am going to. Although I still shop in real life shops (mostly various charity shops I know the route of). The advantage of online shopping is you don't have to rely on the charity of strangers to let you know when your bus as arrived at the correct place. You don't have to face crowded shopping area's and there isn't the problem of having to explain to the shop keeper how to use a communication card. However, there is the disadvantage of having to wait all day for your shopping to arrive and some online shops are far less reliable then others. I've also been sent the wrong items and had to wait months for the items to arrive.
The web is also a great source of information. You can read newspapers from all round the world on the web as well as organizations such as amnesty international. In the article below someone goes so far as to say that the web is a 2nd super power. I'm not so sure of that but it certainly has helped me a great deal.

Here are the links of my favorite message boards:
Harry Potter:

I consider this the best Harry Potter message board. It is a very recent development. Specifically aimed at the more intelligent fans. It also has a chat room and web page.

Another Harry Potter message board. It used to be really good as well but it has gone down hill somewhat when the old administraters were de-administrated (they are now administraters at pensive)
