We Are Accelerated Readers

Our students participate in a school wide reading program, Accelerated Reader. They
read books and then take a test on the computer for comprehension. Each book earns
them points with a score of 60% or higher. The number of points a student needs to participate in school wide special events is based on their grade level and reading ability.

For the 1999-2000 school year, students who met their goal went to see a
neighboring school's, Neale Elementary, musical program in December. For our yearend celebration, we had a Race Day. Mike Balzano, a local race driver brought his race car
and talked about race driving. The students participated in a race-related relay race. The
top readers of the school for the year were in a parade. Parents, community members,
and staff drove the winners in convertibles in a parade around the block while the other students waved pennants they had made that day. A fun time was had by all who earned
their points.
