Watch This

"Watch this!" he said,
And set about writing a poem,
A poem erudite yet caring,
With subtext sardonic but naive,
And richly layered.
Finally perfect after weeks of labor,
And countless editings.
A pinnacle, a masterpiece,
A poetic epiphany for the soul,
A really good poem.

Smiling softly,
"Yes," she said,
And suppressed a yawn.
