My family and myself on Poppy Day 2001. Poppy Day is when we have a street collection
for the RSA (Returned Services Association), I'm not too sure what your equiv
would be. Poppy Day
is normally the Friday before ANZAC Day (April 25th).
On the left looking at the picture are my eldest son Aaron (10),
middle son Liam (8), wife Robyn,
youngest son Josua (5), and yours truly. This was the first year the wife had
joined us but the two
eldest boys had just completed their 4th sucessive Poppy Day and Josh his second.
I was a Petty Officer Telecommunications Supervisor (POTS) in
the Royal New Zealand
Navy (RNZN). I retired from RNZN on 1 December 1999 after 23 years 10 months
and
2 days of service. After 6 months of being bored and unemployed, I went and
joined the Royal
New Zealand Naval Reserve (RNZNVR) as a Petty Offcer in the Shipping Control
trade (POSC).
