HERB F.

At age 17 I was already attending CCNY. I was dying to get away from school
and take part in a war. I conned my old man into letting me sign up for the Air Force.
In this photo I am on a C-47 somewhere over the South China Sea.

After one tour in the Air Force I decided to join the Army where I hoped to find more action. This picture was taken during Desert Storm.
I am a Sergeant Major now and the last place you would want to be is my office if you have screwed up.
Don't be fooled by the cute smile, I am a mean one!

Every year about Veteran's Day my American Legion Post is invited to come and talk to the students in the local schools.
In this photo I am in the process of dressing one of the teachers in about 60 pounds of my old gear to give her an idea of what we carried in the field.
The kids enjoy seeing the teacher collapse under the weight. I always remind them that they have to imagine
100 degrees temperature and 100% humidity.

When I retired in 1995 after 27 years of service, I got heavily involved in Veteran's organizations.
As the Commander of an American Legion Post I work closely with agencies that feed and
care for homeless Vietnam Veterans. This photo is from Thanksgiving 1999 where the food on
the table is being presented to a representative from the organization "United Veterans Beacon House"
that cares for the Veterans. I am in the blue shirt.
