Letter for Community Activities Record Book

June 2001

I would like to offer a brief history of Bloomingdale V.F.W. Post #7539.  We were founded in 1991 and became a Charter Member July 30th, 1992.  We were a small post with only 38 members, and are still trying to recruit new members.

We were able to complete quite a few projects since we have members in many different professions.  Our Sr. Vice Commander, Bill Wolff is an Assistant Fire Chief, Jr. Vice Commander, Lenny Lewand works for Hanover Highlands/Schaumburg School Dist. #54.  Our Adjutant, Joe Franzese likes to give speeches in schools.  Member Richard Blair is a police detective in Bloomingdale, Quartermaster Jerry Bertrand is a certified chef and sets up our socials.  He is also very aggressive in other organizations and works with Member Spiro Argyris on blood drives.  Service officer Bedard is very active in our post.

As Commander, I try to motivate members to be active in as many projects as possible.  Our program is new to our post and it has never been done before.  I'm sure in years to come, our post will continue to improve.

I hope the National and Department Commanders don't mind I used their slogans on the front cover of the book.  Courage under fire, and the time is now, I feel they both fit very well.

I'd like to offer a personal note of gratitude to my wife Dorothy.  Her help and encouragement, over the past year, has never wavered.
