Patriot's Pen

Patriot's Pen is a nationwide youth essay writing contest that gives students in grades 6,7 and 8 the opportunity to write essays expressing their views on democracy.

Contestants write a 300-400 word essay based on an annual patriotic theme. First place winners receive a $10,000 savings bond and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. The top national winners each receive a savings bond ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.

Ron Slowik from our Enid Post 2270 is the State Chairman for this project.  Ron will present savings bonds in the amount of $1,000, $500 and $250 to three area contestants from around the State of Oklahoma at the VFW State Mid-Winter Conference in Oklahoma City.

The 2009-2010 theme is "WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME TO HONOR OUR MILITARY HEROES?." Deadline is November 1, 2009.
