Half Mast throughout the day.

POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY

On POW/MIA Recognition Day, September 20, the dedication of the Memorial Plaque at Platte Canyon High School was performed at 2:10 p.m. with students in attendance. It reads as follows:

‘Dedicated To The Prisoners Of War and Missing In Action Of All Wars Of The United States .’

LADIES AUXILIARY

Dear Auxiliary Sister,
Last week was a busy week. It was a full day on September 11. The Auxiliary assisted the Post with a flag raising ceremony at Elk Creek Elementary. We also assisted in distributing flags at the Safeway store.
One of the best things we can do for our Auxiliary is to be out working in our community. That is one way we can get new members which we need so desperately.
October 26 is Make a Difference Day. A few members will be at the Post in the afternoon to collect clothes from the public to be donated to the Homeless Veteran Standdown. Try to help collect or bring donations.
The Post has decided to schedule their staff meeting on the same night as our Auxiliary meeting. If you hate to drive alone at night you can hitch a ride with your husband. They meet at Bill Taylor’s office at Pine Junction at 6:30 p.m. All Post members are welcome. I plan on riding with my husband and hopefully have a short joint meeting with the Post before car-pooling up to the Post in Shawnee . If you drive yourself our next meeting is October 5 at 7:00 p.m. Please come. We are planning some fun activities.
                        -- Ginnie Marlin, Auxiliary President

  COMMANDERS LETTER

Dear Comrades,

I want to thank everyone that came out for 9/11 for its remembrance. We had a very busy day from formations at the fire station and Elk Creek Elementary School , to coffee at Rio de Juan, lunch with IREA and lastly giving out flags to our neighbors. For all those that could not participate because of work or other obligations, I am sure you did something significant to remember 911.

At our last board meeting we discussed having a Halloween breakfast on Saturday. October 26 at Beaver Ranch in Conifer. We also discussed having subsidiary post in Conifer or maybe starting a new one and taking care of one of the cabins at Beaver Ranch. We1F I met with the Beaver Ranch Board which they approved us to have a breakfast on that day from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Senior-Vice Martin will be our chairman. We will have more on this later.

The post purchased a target thrower for a future turkey shoot. Please call Dave Marlin at (719) 836-7049 if you want to be on the committee.

Our next country breakfast will be Sunday October 6th.  Please keep selling our raffle tickets for Veteran’s day drawing. Well that is all for now. Remember our post is here to help veterans and their families.

Sincerely Yours,

KJ

Commander Bill Taylor
