A merchant named Vercci sought Soul Edge. During his search for the weapon, Vercci lost a large portion of his wealth to war. He dug a pit on an island, and hid the rest of his wealth. This pit, called the Money Pit, was guarded by Voldo. After the death of Vercci, Voldo still remained loyal, and guarded the pit, while he also searched for Soul Edge. As Voldo chased away an intruder, he heard his master's voice, as he sensed the essence of Soul Edge from her sword, and followed her. Eventually, he took the sword, and brought it back to the Money Pit, but he didn't hear his master's voice. Four years went by without hearing his master. After defeating another intruder, Voldo found shards from the Soul Edge and heard his master again. He finally realized why he didn't hear his master before; it was because the other sword was not Soul Edge. Voldo has now set out in search of Soul Edge, so he may bring it back to his master in the Pit.

Voldo is a fast and powerful character. His fighting style is so odd, that it is nearly impossible to read him to block his attacks. Anything blocked against Voldo is most likely blind luck. He can dodge incoming attacks easily, and open a combo up from the dodge. His Mantis Crawl gives him even more attacks, and speed.

Learning to use Voldo's stances and how to link them together is his biggest downfall. With his high speed and agility, comes weakened attacks. While full combos can give him powerful attacks, single strikes do little damage. If a player can't master Voldo's combo attacks, then using him will prove most difficult.
