Review:

The PSP is the first effort of Sony in the category of portable console. To present she is not available therefore we cannot bring opinion for her possibilities. Let's see characteristics:

CPU
The PSP will make use two MIPS R4000 of 32 bit processors which will run in 333Mhz. One of the two processors is reported as Media Engine and will use for sound, films and I/O management. Moreover the system will include VFPU floating point vector unit with possibility of calculation above the 2.6 Gigaflops. This unit is in order to it strengthens the CPU in 3D calculations.

Memory
The system will use 8 Mb main memory with bandwidth 2.6 GBytes the second with 2 MB of under-memory, also with 2.6 GBytes the second bandwidth, that will be used by the Media Engine.

Graphics Processor
GPU will constitute from a Rendering Engine and a Surface Engine and have access in 2MB VRAM with bandwidth 5.3 GBytes the second. Hardware it will include support for traditional polygonal as for the effects of convex surface as well as other effects as clipping, morphing etc. Sony claims that the theoretical attribution of polygons is 33 million polygons per second.

Disc
The optical disk of system (UMD - Universal Media Disc) has thickness 60 millimeter dual layered disk and can stores 1.8 Gigabytes of data. The number of transport of data is 11 Megabits per second, that means two times more rapid than a standard system DVD. The Sony promises also high level of protection of copies on these disks using the technology of coding DiscID and AES.

Conclusion

Is for best thing (at least in subject hardware) portable system up to moment. We wait for release to see in operation in order to we can bring some opinion. It is expected to circulate simultaneously in all the world the fourth quarter 2004.
