San was raised by Moro no Kimi and her sons. My interpretation from the movie was that she was 'trapped' by the wolves and would remain the Mononoke Hime/Monster Princess all her life, and that she might actually be much older than her physical appearace displayed. She has an intese hate of humans and thinks they should all be killed. Wearing a gruesome mask, and riding on a wolf she repeatedly attacked the Tatara People (Eboshi esp.). Her hatred of humans is lessened when she meets Ashitaka, and she must rethink her beliefs.
