Kouroku was attacked by Inugami (Wolf God) along with the rest of the transportation men. During the fight he was knocked off the cliff and fell into the water. Ashitaka brought him home to the iron factory, where his wife Toki proceeded to chastise him. He's a bit idiotic, but good hearted, and fights with the rest of the men when the iron factory is under attack
